Chapter 37
The next day, Harper showed up at work bright and early. She had been working for a while before one of William's assistants came, telling her William wanted to see her. "Come in" "Good morning Mr Carson,I heard you were looking for me?" "Mr Cars- you don't see me as your father anymore?!" Harper didn't reply,she simply blinked and asked "May I ask why you wanted to see me sir?"
"You managed to sign a contract with Whitney Corp?" "Yes sir" "You have some ability uh? How'd you get it done?" "I believe that's none of your business sir,I simply did what I had to do as to protect my husband from getting fired by you" "Fine. I was planning on getting you fired since the contract with Miss Miller is over but you managed to sign yet another one so soon and with someone even more powerful? I underestimated you Harper" "I'll take that as a compliment sir. Is that all?" "Just wanted to give you a warning. One wrong step and you could get fired even before the start of the contract"
"Well sir it seems like I'll have to remind you that I'm the one Mr Whitney signed with. Do you really think you can get me fired so easily?" "Do you dare defy me? I'm your father!" "Sorry but a certain someone had lost the right to call himself my father since that night two years ago. You could have gained it back if you had considered helping my mother,but you didn't care even if she died! William Carson, do you really think you have the right to call yourself my father?!" William stood up and slapped his palm on the table "I- I'll fire your husband if you don't listen to me!"
By this time,Harper had already reached the door. She turned her head and looked at William blankly "You can go ahead and do whatever you want,I don't care"
Harper left the office and came face to face with Chloe. She had heard everything that happened in the office and raised her hand. She was about to slap Harper but Harper didn't even flinch,she simply looked at Chloe with a stoic expression "What are you trying to do?" "Harper, he's your dad! How could you say that to him?!" "I don't care what you say,but that man in there is most definitely not my father". Harper turned to leave but she stopped when Chloe spoke "How'd you get Mr Whitney to sign the contract with you? Did you sleep with him?!" "I don't see how it's any of your business" "I- I know you didn't want to marry Harrison in the first place but how could you cheat on him? He's your husband for crying out loud!" "So? Whatever happens between Harrison and I is none of your business. Got it?"
Harper turned to leave but she saw Harrison when she lifted her head. Harrison looked at her with deep eyes but she didn't say a word,she simply walked past him. Harrison was about to follow her but he felt someone tug at his sleeve. He looked behind him and saw Chloe who blinked at him "Harrison, you shouldn't follow her. Didn't you hear just now? She actually cheated on you!" "Oh?" Chloe thought that Harrison was listening to her so she let go of his sleeve and smiled "She- she cheated on you last night! She actually spent the night with the CEO of Whitney Corp just to get him to sign a contract with her! Harper doesn't love you, she doesn't like men who aren't rich!" "Is that so?" Chloe blushed because of Harrison's gaze on her "Harper doesn't like you,but I do. Could you give me a chance, I promise I'll-"
"Miss Carson, shouldn't you be ashamed of yourself?" "What?" "Trying to seduce your sister's husband, even if she's your stepsister. That's not a very good thing to do" "I-" "Even if Harper doesn't like me, it's none of your business. Stop trying to create rifts between us, it'll never work. And even if I and Harper eventually divorce, I wouldn't want to end up with someone like you"
Harrison's response left Chloe speechless. She watched as he left to look for Harper with a crazed look in her eyes. "Sorry Harrison,but I want you and I'm willing to do anything to have you,even if I have to destroy Harper!"
