Chapter 45
Harper looked at the old lady who Harrison's features had a striking resemblance to and she couldn't help but think of her grandmother. She walked up to her and tucked in the blanket but as she looked at her,she felt something strange. She had only seen Gertrude once but why did she feel like she'd seen her somewhere else apart from the hospital?
Harrison's phone rang, breaking the silence in the room. He turned to look at Harper "Do you mind staying here? I need to take this" "Go ahead". Harrison nodded before leaving the room. He went to a corner outside the hospital and answered the call "What is it?" "Sir, your stepmother has gone back to deal with her brother's issue" "Good" Since Julia seemed to have nothing to do, he'd help her find some work.
Growing up,he had been unable to take care of his mother and little sister but that was in the past. He was an adult now and he was going to do anything possible to protect his loved ones!
"But sir, there seems to be a problem" "What is it?" "Your stepmother is trying to look for a way to convince your father to sell the villa back at the west coast of the city" Harrison's gaze darkened upon hearing Clyde's report. Was that woman crazy? That was his mother's villa! It contained the very few memories he had left of his happy childhood! "Make sure you stop them from doing so. No one should dare touch my mother's villa!" "Yes sir!"
"Hey,what do you think you're doing? Stop that!" Harper had only gone out of the ward for a moment and she came back only to see a nurse pouring soup directly into Gertrude's mouth. Harper was stunned and immediately stopped her.Was she trying to kill Harrison's grandma?
"This is the way I've been feeding her all this while, who are you to tell me to stop?" "Don't you know that feeding an elderly person who's unconscious has always been done through a feeding tube? You're risking her suffocating if you just pour the soup directly into her mouth!" The young nurse was taken aback by Harper's knowledge and became speechless for a while. But then, she seemed to have remembered something and retorted "Do you really think you're special?"
"What did you say?" "Mr Whitney doesn't care about you, he has a fiancee who's richer and way prettier than you are!" "Shut up!" The two ladies turned their heads and saw Harrison standing at the door, looking at the nurse with an extremely cold gaze "Mr, Mr Whitney.." "My wife is the person I married on my own free will, what does it have to do with you?"
Just then,a bunch of burly men came in and took the nurse away. A few seconds later,a text came in on Harrison's phone "Boss, the nurse confessed that she was hired by your stepmother so she could keep a eye on your grandmother" Harrison stared at the message on his phone in silence before turning it off. He raised his head and saw Harper who was wiping the soup spilling out of Gertrude's mouth with no hint of disgust. His gaze softened a little and he walked towards Harper. "Give me the napkin, I'll do it"
Harper ignored him and didn't say a word, she just kept wiping Gertrude's mouth. Harrison furrowed his brows, his wife was mad at him and he knew why, he had heard everything the nurse said a while ago. "Harper about what that lady said.." "A young lady who's rich and beautiful seems nice, I'd like that too if I were a man. At least she's better than someone who was thrown out of the family by her father" "Harper!" "I'm hungry, aren't you going to get food?"
Harrison clenched his fists but he finally left to buy some takeout. Harper turned to look at the door with tears in her eyes, she sent him away because she didn't want him to see her crying. No wonder he was so cold towards her before,he had probably been planning to marry his fiancee before she came into the picture. Harper's eyes turned red, and she couldn't help but sniffle as she rubbed them with the back of her hand. In the end, this marriage was only her wishful thinking.
