Chapter 47
The reflection of the coconut tree could be seen in the swimming pool. A figure came out and two assistants came towards him holding towels. Harrison took one and wiped off the water droplets on his body expressionlessly. He had been going in and coming out of the pool several times, all to subdue the restlessness in his body. He didn't know why, but he had been unable to stop thinking of Harper ever since he kissed her a while ago. The look in her eyes when he pinned her to the bed really made him want to...
Harrison gave out a loud groan that startled the people around him. "Are you okay boss?" "I'm fine Clyde, there's nothing-" Just then Harrison saw an assistant running towards him. The assistant was out of breath and he bent over to hold his knees as he breathed heavily "What's wrong?" "Y-you-your grandmother..." "What's wrong with her?" "She just woke up!" "What?!"
Harrison opened the door of the ward and saw his grandma who was propped up by a pillow; holding Harper's hand while chatting with her with a smile on her face. He suppressed the joy in his heart and turned around "Where's the doctor?" "There's no need to get the doctor. He was here a while ago to check on grandma, you just missed him". Harrison walked closer "Grandma, how do you feel?" "A bit dizzy but otherwise I'm just fine" "That's good, really good" He turned to look at Harper with a faint smile "Thank you for taking care of grandma all this time"
Harper didn't reply and that caused Harrison to feel uneasy. Had his grandmother told her about his identity? She had no idea he was pretending to be a bodyguard! "Harper are you... mad at me?" "We've been married for so long yet you didn't tell me anything, now you're asking if I'm mad at you?! Harrison, what do you take me for? Someone who's after your family's wealth?"
Harrison looked as Harper's eyes that had swollen and turned red, feeling pain in his heart "I'm sorry for not telling you. It's just that we got married unexpectedly and I..." "You didn't want to tell me you're from the Whitney family in Willowbrook?" Harper clenched her fists "If it weren't for grandma telling me, you weren't going to let me know at all?" Harrison fell silent. He had never wanted to marry Harper in the first place, his plan was to divorce her in three months. That was why he thought that there was no need to tell her anything about his family. But now... "Harper I know I was wrong. If you give me a chance, I'll tell you everything..."
"Why are you shouldering this alone?" Harrison was taken aback and furrowed his brows "Do you think that knowing you come from that Whitney family would make me leave you to go curry favor with them?" Harrison took a deep breath and looked at his grandmother. "Don't look at grandma,I asked her myself. She told me that they don't care about you even in the slightest bit so I won't associate with them. I don't care if you're rich or not, I love you just the way you are and I'll work with you for a better future. As long as we're determined, there's nothing we won't be able to achieve!"
Harper's little speech made Harrison extremely touched in his heart. He walked up to Harper and hugged her "Don't worry,I won't let you suffer and...I love you even more" before letting go of her. Harper's cheeks were slightly flushed but she blushed even more when she saw Gertrude looking at her with a smile.
Gertrude was still weak and soon fell asleep, so Harper went took Harrison to a nearby farmer's market so they could make some nutritional food for her. The crowd's attention was solely focused on them as they walked. Harper had gotten used to people's gazes at her over the years so she didn't pay attention to the crowd and pulled Harrison forward instead. Soon, their hands were holding several bags with lots of fruits and vegetables.
Harper looked at the huge cucumber and her husband was holding and pulled his sleeve gently "Why'd you buy that $4,000 cucumber? Grandma can't eat that!" The old lady who was at the stall simply smiled "Young lady, your husband bought this sea cucumber for you, he said you need to keep healthy!" Harper looked at Harrison "You bought this for me?" But he didn't answer and pulled her along with him as they walked. "Harrison, where'd you get all that money from?" Harper thought about it for a while, Harrison spent money like a rich kid — he hardly knew how to bargain for stuff. And the ward Gertrude was staying at caused thousands of dollars, so how where did he get the money to pay for all that stuff?
Harrison furrowed his brows,he hadn't really thought about how to answer that question
"My money.." "Y-you're not involved in that, are you?" Harper had long suspected the source of Harrison's money, especially since she'd seen him with a woman at the Aurora Society Club. At the time, she and Harrison weren't close enough for her to ask.
"You didn't work there, did you?" Harrison paused for a moment and raised his eyebrows "You want to know if I worked in that kind of industry?" "Hmm" "Well, I did" "What?!"
