Chapter 49
~2 months later~
"Harper, what's this supposed to mean?" Harper stared at Harrison with red eyes as she secretly clenched her fists behind her back. He had gone on a business trip a month ago and he just arrived a few minutes ago. She wanted nothing more but to jump into his arms and inhale his relaxing scent for the whole night but...
"What does it look like to you?" "Harper!" "I've had enough of this, I want a divorce! Sign the papers quickly and I'll be on my way out of here" "Harper, what's wrong?" "Didn't you hear me,I said I've had enough. I can't stay with you anymore, you're just a lowly family bodyguard. I thought you seemed hardworking and that we'd be in a better position by now but nothing seems to have changed!"
Harper's words infuriated Harrison who angrily swept away all the gifts on the table. He'd been thinking about her all day since he left and even had an argument with his grandfather just so he could come see her but... she wanted a divorce? He looked at her with his beautiful grey eyes that seemed to have a soft storm brewing in them "If I told you that I have another identity, would you reconsider?"
Harper looked up at Harrison with worry filled eyes. She really didn't want to divorce him but... "I’m the CEO of—"
No. She couldn’t let him finish. She couldn’t let that person hear.
Acting on instinct, Harper rushed forward and crashed into him, pressing her lips to his in a desperate, silencing kiss.
But Harrison didn’t kiss her back.
When she finally pulled away, breathless, he looked down at her with eyes colder than she’d ever seen.
"A goodbye kiss?" he said bitterly. "That really isn’t necessary... Miss"
Harrison actually called her Miss... Harper tried hard and held her sobs as she watched Harrison sign the divorce papers and storm out of the house in anger. She fell on her knees and broke down in tears as she looked at the divorce papers that were in front of her.
After crying for a while, she slowly got up as she wiped her tears with her hand before taking the papers and walking out of the house dejectedly.
"Here you go,are you happy now?" Harper watched as Chloe flipped through the same two pages of the divorce papers over and over again with a blank look on her face. Chloe handed the papers to a lawyer and when he had confirmed they were genuine papers, she dismissed him with a huge grin on her face.
"I can't believe you actually managed to divorce Harrison. Good job sis!" Harper glared at Chloe with red eyes as she asked "Where's my mother?" "Oh you mean Bethany? Sure, I'll have them bring her over".
Chloe snapped her fingers and two burly men brought Bethany out. She was fine of course, except for the ropes that tightly bound her arms and legs and the tape on her mouth. "Mom!" Harper stepped forward and was just about to touch Bethany when Chloe stopped her "Ah,ah no can't do!" "What do you mean? I divorced Harrison like you asked me to,so why won't you let go of my mother?!" "Relax sis, I never said I wasn't going to give your mom back to you. It's just that..." "What is it?" "I'll give her back, but that won't be until Harrison completely forgets about you" "What?!" "Sorry sis, rules are rules. Take her away boys"
Harper suddenly grabbed an empty bottle of wine from the table and broke it before taking hold of Chloe and pressing the bottle against her neck. "Take one more step forward and I'll kill her!" The bodyguards paused with no idea of what to do,but Chloe who was in pain of having her hair pulled out shouted at them. "Let her go" "But Miss-" "I said you should let go of her! Make sure you untie her first!"
The bodyguards slowly untied Bethany and removed the tape from her mouth before letting go of her. As soon as she was free, Harper let go of Chloe and she was just about to leave but Chloe shouted "Hold those two down for me!" They immediately held Harper and her mother down. Chloe walked towards Harper and raised the broken bottle about to use it on her. Harper couldn't avoid it so she turned her head and closed her eyes. Suddenly, there was a splash of blood!
