Chapter 64
"Hi mom, dad" Bethany gave her parents a nervous smile as she ushered Harper forward. "This is Harper. Your granddaughter" Robert and Diane turned to look at each other before turning to look at their daughter in confusion.
Yesterday...
"Harper dear what's wrong?" "It's Harrison" "Harrison? Did you two have another argument?" "Harper looked up at her mother with tears "He- he'd been lying to me all this time" "Lying to you? About what?" "His true identity. Would you actually believe me if I told you that Harrison's the heir of the Whitney family?" "Wait, what?!" "I know right? And he'd been hiding it from me all this while" "But how did you-" "It was Chloe who told me"
"Chloe? But how sure are you that she-" "Oh I'm sure mom. That evidence wasn't fabricated. Mom, he lied to me. We-we've been married for almost a year now but he didn't tell me the truth" Bethany looked at her daughter who was crying and felt an extremely heartbroken. She hugged her and tenderly patted her back while she sobbed "Mom, I love him, I love him so so much. Why did he do this to me? Why?" "It's okay baby, you can cry all you want ok? Mom's here for you"
Harper sat on the floor with her head in her mother's lap as she tenderly stroked her soft black hair. "Harper dear?" "Yes mom?" "There's something I need to tell you" Harper sniffled before looking up at her mom "What is it?" "Do you know my family?" "No mom, you never really told me about them" Bethany placed Harper's head on her lap again and kept stroking her hair as she spoke "Well, I come from a very rich family; the Hawkins" "Really?" "Yes dear" "Well then what happened to your family?" "Nothing really. You see I am the only child born to my parents so you can imagine how much love and care I received while growing up. But when I was old enough to get married, my parents started arranging all kinds of men from rich families for me. Harrison's dad is even one of them" "What?" "I'm telling you the truth dear. So one day I met William and fell in love with him. I told my parents about him but they didn't approve of our relationship,so I ran away with him" "You ran away with him?!" "I know it was a stupid decision, but I was just a naive little girl who had fallen in love" "Naive? Mom, you were 23 when you met him! Someone who's 23 is basically an adult. How could you call yourself little?" "Ok Harper that's enough. I guess you're right" "So that company..." "That's right. It actually belonged to the Hawkins family. But William said he had no stable job so I gave it to him" "Mom!" "I know it was a stupid decision and I regret it" "So..." "I'm going to take you to my parents" "Will they accept us?" "I'm not sure, but it doesn't hurt to try"
