Chapter 8 Midnight Visit

I walked over and opened the door.

As soon as the door opened, my best friend's eyes were red from crying.

She threw herself into my arms.

"You're okay, good, you're okay, scared me to death."

I was confused, "What happened?"

My best friend got up from my arms, wiping tears while saying, "You didn't answer calls or messages, I thought something happened to you. You don't know, that Lu Xuchen posted your photo at his store door, looking for you. I thought he retaliated against you..."

"No, my phone broke, so I couldn't reply. But," I felt uneasy, swallowed, "You said who posted my photo at the store door?"

"Lu Xuchen, the handsome guy you like."

"But I have no grudge with him."

"Yeah, so I found it strange." My best friend suddenly thought of something, slapped her thigh, "I know, today we ate at the Fried Skewers store and left without paying. Must be because we dined and dashed, he held a grudge."

Hearing my best friend say that, I remembered Lu Xuchen said he had something to talk about, I got scared and pulled her away.

Result, forgot to pay.

This was awkward.

"Then I'll go apologize and pay him back."

"Okay, I'll go with you."

We arrived at the familiar Fried Skewers store door. It was midnight, and the store was still open.

The dim yellow light shone out.

Occasionally, cutting sounds came out.

Somehow a bit eerie.

"Bestie, maybe we come tomorrow." My best friend held me, a bit scared.

Just then, a gust of wind blew.

The photo posted at the store door was lifted.

Blew to my face.

I took it down, it was my surveillance photo eating at the Fried Skewers store.

I tensed.

The handwriting on it was bold—

If anyone recognizes the girl in the photo, contact me, I'll pay to thank.

It felt like a wanted poster.

Must be because I dined and dashed.

I pursed my lips, said to my best friend, "Wait outside, I'll be out soon. Just dined and dashed, won't involve life, pay quickly, I'll feel at ease."

My best friend had to agree.

I carefully moved in, entered the store.

"Um, I'm here."

I spoke weakly.

But Lu Xuchen busy chopping in the back kitchen didn't react, obviously didn't hear.

I had to speak louder, "Boss, I said, I'm here."

Lu Xuchen heard this time.

He turned, looked at me.

Put the knife neatly on the cutting board.

His lips curved into an ambiguous smile.

"You finally showed up."
