Chapter 9 – BETRAYAL IN THE CLUB

Chapter Nine

BETRAYAL IN THE CLUB

Indigo opened her eyes, the room spinning around her.

She struggled to make sense of her surroundings before realizing where she was at Steel's house. She remembered being kidnapped, and then the pain, the fear, and the relief when Steel found her. He’d dragged her back to the clubhouse, his protective instincts taking over.

But that was hours ago, and she still felt shaken.

Her eyes roamed over his sleeping form, thankful for his strength and determination.

She knew that without him, she wouldn’t be here, alive and breathing.

Despite the danger they were in, she felt safe in his arms. For the first time in a long time, she finally felt protected.

She knew that he would do anything to keep her safe, even from the ones closest to him.

The thought of betrayal within their ranks left her cold, scared.

She didn't want to believe it, but the evidence was mounting.

As she lay there, unable to sleep, she tried to piece together the clues.

It had to be someone she trusted. Someone who knew about their plans, their movements.

But who? She closed her eyes, hoping that the answers would come to her in her dreams. Instead, all she saw were flames.

Her shop. Her heart sank as she realized what this war with the cartel truly meant.

It meant sacrifices, and possibly losing more than just her shop, but also the man she had grown to love.

Tears trickled down her cheeks, and she prayed for a way out of this nightmare.

For a chance to start fresh, to leave this life behind.

But for now, she had to play along and hope that they would emerge victorious.

Tomorrow, she would have to face Steel and see his reaction to the betrayal.

Today, she would hold onto the thoughts of his warmth, his strength, and let it be enough to keep her going.

She traced his jawline, feeling the rough stubble under her fingertips.

This man was unlike anyone she'd ever known, and she couldn't help but feel drawn to him.

But with danger lurking around every corner, she wondered how they could ever have a future together.

She closed her eyes, trying to block out the thoughts that kept racing through her mind.

Her eyes flew open when she heard voices outside the room. They were coming for her again.

Indigo bolted upright, her heart racing. Steel stirred in his sleep, and she placed a hand on his chest to wake him. He opened his eyes, instantly alert. “What’s wrong, baby?” He asked, his eyes scanning the room.

She took a deep breath before telling him what she'd heard.

Indigo lay in bed, still disoriented and shaken from the events of the day before.

Steel was a deep sleeper, but she knew he would protect her even in his unconscious state.

She wondered how she got so lucky to have someone like him watching over her.

As she traced the lines on his chiseled jaw, a small noise outside the room caught her attention.

Her heart began to race as she strained to hear what it was.

She sat up quickly, her eyes darting around the room. It sounded like more than just the usual night noise. Steel stirred at her movement, immediately on alert. “What’s wrong?” he asked, his voice gruff with sleep.

Indigo took a deep breath, her hands trembling as she told him about the noise she’d heard outside. “They’re coming for me again, the cartel.” His face hardened immediately. He swung out of bed. “We won’t go down without a fight,” he vowed, grabbing his weapons.

They moved through the house like ghosts, silent and deadly.

Indigo couldn’t help but marvel at his skill, the way he moved with such ease and control.

And then, she knew they’d found the intruders.

Gunshots rang out, and Indigo covered her ears, trembling as she held onto Steel's jacket. He pulled her behind him, protectively, his eyes blazing with rage. They’d find the traitor, and they’d make them pay.

When the fighting finally ceased, they searched the house. Indigo’s hands were shaking as she counted the bodies, wondering how many lives were ruined because of her. Steel pulled her close, whispering words of comfort and promise. “We’ll get through this; we'll find a way,” he murmured.

But she knew it wouldn't be easy. The cartel wasn't the only threat they faced, not anymore.

As they made their way back to their room, exhausted and battered, Indigo realized that nothing would ever be the same again.

Their love had ignited a war, one they could only hope to win together.

And as she fell asleep in Steel's arms, she prayed that they would wake up to a new day, one where the danger was gone, and they could finally live freely.
