795 THE LUNA IS HERE!
"I don’t care, who will be the king, as long as they give us food and feed our children, I am willing to give my life," said a man in the table next to Iris, he was talking with his friend.
"Why would alpha Cane fight the royal in the first place?" The other man talked.
"I am not sure, but I think he supported the Red Claw pack, the baby from prince Vemion was the crown prince before King Aeon died."
"Yes, but this caused the alpha fought against alpha Derick from Celestial Moon pack. Alpha Josh was a good friend of alpha Derick in the past and everyone knew the two alphas supported prince Kellan back then."
"Hh... If I could choose, I would rather have alpha Cane to sit on the throne. He was the only one, who gave us food during winter, though it was not much, but without the distribution of food from him, I don’t think we can survive here."
The other men agreed with him. They shared the same sentiment and then talked about Cane’s birthright before they talked about Iris.
"I heard his luna taught lowborn children how to read and write and now all the Howling Wolf pack warriors are able to read and write."
"Yeah, I heard the same thing too."
"Can you imagine someone like her wanted to take her time to teach lowborn like us?"
"Unfortunately, she is a runt."
The other man didn’t agree. "I heard she can use healing power. Do you think her mother cheated on alpha Gerald? She has red hair, both of her parents didn’t have that color of hair from what I knew."
"There is a possibility..."
"Rumor said the Serafim looks like her."
"I have never seen the Serafim, but I think that’s a coincident."
When these men kept talking about Iris and the topic about her only became more heated with a lot of speculation about her birth, Eron took the initiative to get them leave, because he was afraid there was a certain topic that would come up to the surface.
Meanwhile, Zale basked in glory when they praised his luna, he kept staring at her with adoration.
Currently, Iris was having her hair hid under her hoodie and half of her face was barely seen, but one could tell that she was uncomfortable with how open they were talking about her, though it was on positive note.
"We need to leave now," Eron said, as he stood up. He decided not to make a stop in the town again, because he was afraid they would encounter another situation like this.
"Yes, yes," Iris said hastily, as she stood up.
However, they didn’t move quick enough when those men finally came to the topic Eron dreaded the most.
"Unfortunately, she lost her babies..." the man sighed.
"Yeah. It’s very devastating news. It can be said the alpha had lost three babies now. He didn’t have firstborn yet. If he wanted to usurp the throne the problem with heir will be his biggest obstacle. What kind of king without an heir?"
Eron and Dyne felt like their heart dropped to the floor when they heard that, they immediately checked on Iris and she had her brows furrowed.
It was Zale, who took her hand and got them out of this cheap tavern.
They walked toward, where they put their horses and Dyne tossed a coin to a young, who guarded them. That young boy, who looked like the same age like Zale, looked happy to see the silver coin and then thanked them before he dashed away.
"What they meant with... I lost my babies?" Iris finally broke the silent, she pulled down the shawl that covered half of her face, her blue eyes met Eron’s and Dyne’s, she demanded an explanation. "What babies?"
Out of instinct, Iris touched her stomach. It was flat. She lost all of her baby’s fat when she succumbed into a deep depression, one could tell there was no trace of her pregnancy whatsoever right now, even though she just gave birth a little bit more than three months ago.
Eron and Dyne didn’t know what to say, they were trying to find a way to get out of this situation, but their brain didn’t work properly and couldn’t come up with something that could convince her that they were not lying, because obviously, it was the only way they could explain thing to her.
However, no matter how hard they were trying, their mind went blank instead. Thankfully, the little boy came for their rescue.
"What babies?" Zale questioned Eron and Dyne too. This little devil actually looked very innocent when he spoke. "Was that the rumor that alpha spread around?" he scrunched his brows, looked confused and he looked very convincing.
"Cane?" Iris furrowed her brows. But, it was not weird for Cane to spread rumor, since it was not a new method when it came to him. Yet, why it had to be her pregnancy? She didn’t have one, right?
"Why don’t we go to the alpha right away and you can ask about it, luna?" Zale suggested.
Iris nodded. She would get the right answer if she came to the right source, more so there wouldn’t be such rumor if no one started it and right now, the only culprit in her mind was Cane. That man was very unpredictable and she could only sigh with all the scheme under his sleeves.
"Okay..." Iris nodded. A little bit reluctant, she stared at the tavern again and had this impulsiveness to go back inside and asked those men about the rumor, but then she decided to go. They couldn’t waste their time and what Iris needed to tell Cane was way more urgent than rumor.
Finally, they could breathe in relief when Iris agreed to leave. They immediately mounted their horses and Zale was with Eron. He spoke at him in low voice, which only allowed the two of them to hear that.
"You owe me for this one," Zale said tersely. "And don’t flick my head again, I don’t like it."
Eron opened his mouth, but then he clamped it again. He felt grievances, but he couldn’t complain because indeed, Zale had saved them earlier.
That was really a close call to say the least.
And with that, they continued their journey and because Eron avoided the towns, they spent the night in the open area for the rest of it.
Iris didn’t realize it, since she didn’t have any idea the route they must to take, but Dyne and Zale could tell.
In the end, they had to spend another two days for them to be able to reach Cane’s campsite,
By the time they were there it was early in the morning and it was because Iris insisted for them to ride through the night, since Dyne said Cane’s campsite was already so close.
By the time they arrived there, it was already a week since Iris got that vision and Cane had moved his campsite twice. Right now, they were still trying to corner alpha Derick and his warriors even more, while Cane’s warrior tried to take control over the Bloody Wolf pack.
It was not that hard, since they were willing to let Cane and his people to rule them, not to mention with the Serafim and people from Holy Kingdom were here, there was no significant resistance against them.
Celestial Moon pack warriors were indeed a great fighter, even though they were not infused by dark magic, but they were born to fight monsters in the north.
However, this place was a disadvantage for them, since alpha Derick and Cezi were not familiar with this terrain. It could be said, the land in the south was Cane’s turf.
During this period of time, Cedric had his knights to besiege Silver River pack’s fortress after their last battle, they needed to stand guard, especially when Silver Warrior sneaked around and ruined their ration.
Some of the warriors and knights were being poisoned because of that and they needed to think of a way to get out of this situation.
And that was the first thing that Iris heard when she came to the campsite and fortunately, it was Zephyr and Trion, who were in charge to be there and saw their luna’s small group first.
The two of them were shocked to see their luna.
"Luna! How can you..." Trion was dumbstruck. He and Zephyr directed their attention toward Eron and Dyne, as if asking for their explanation.
However, Iris cut them off before they could interrogate the two of them.
Zephyr got another shock when he saw Zale was coming with them too. "Why I am not surprise to see you here?" he clicked his tongue and crossed his arms, as he stared down at the young boy, whom he had been training for the past few months.
Zale moved closer to Iris to avoid Zephyr’s stern glare.
"Where is Cane?" Iris asked them, she entered the campsite and just like the Zephyr and Trion, they were surprised to see their luna here, especially those from Howling Wolf pack.
Of course, the words travelled to Cane so fast and Iris barely entered the campsite when Cane already rushed toward her.
He stopped running when the report was actually true. His mate was here. His luna... and the expression Cane had currently was priceless.
Jace and Aliana came second after their alpha.
"Heaven! Luna, you are here!" Aliana exclaimed, while Cane and Iris kept staring at each other.
