Chapter 38 Meeting Nathan
Victoria usually had a chauffeur with her when she went out, but seeing that Kendall had driven her own car, Victoria hitched a ride with Kendall back to the Sinclair family villa.
The Sinclair family villa was located in Diamond Enclave, a famously wealthy neighbourhood in Orapolis. The land here was not only priced sky-high, but even the annual property management fees reached six figures.
Kendall remained unfazed and, under Victoria's guidance, parked her newly bought, affordable commuter car among a fleet of luxury vehicles.
Wealthy neighbourhoods consisted of single, detached houses. The Sinclair family also had a huge, beautiful lawn in the front of the villa. It was full of various flowers in vibrant colours, clearly showing that they were well cared for.
Victoria led Kendall inside. When they were changing shoes in the entryway, Victoria took out a pair of off-white slippers from the shoe cabinet and said, "It might be more comfortable to put on slippers. This pair is brand new and hasn't been worn." Kendall thanked her softly.
After changing shoes, Victoria put down her bag, made Kendall a cup of flower tea, and told her to make herself comfortable. She then walked into the kitchen, took some fruit out of the refrigerator, and began washing it.
To be honest, Kendall was a little surprised.
Even the Hansen family had five or six housekeepers, chefs, and a butler responsible for their three meals, the villa's hygiene, and any daily needs the Hansen family had.
Yet, the Sinclair family, who were of a higher status, didn't seem to have a single live-in housekeeper?
As if she knew Kendall's confusion, Victoria brought the washed fruit out and placed it on the coffee table.
She smiled at Kendall. "Are you wondering why you don't see anyone else?
Nathan doesn't like having other people in the house, and we also don't like having outsiders constantly moving around the house.
So, the chefs and housekeepers usually live in the small building out back.
The chefs come over every day to prepare three meals, and the housekeepers come twice a day, in the morning and evening, to clean.
The rest of the time is their own. I only ask them to come in and help if we have a lot of guests and I'm too busy. "
Kendall nodded, and her impression of the Sinclair family deepened.
Since meeting them today, Kendall had found Victoria to be very approachable, elegant and sophisticated, but not even a bit arrogant.
This was true not only of Victoria but also of Normand and Neil, whom she had just had lunch with.
Although the two men didn't talk much, they gave people a very steady and gentle feeling.
She couldn't help but recall the arrogant attitude of the Hansen family, who thought they were superior just because they had money. She hadn't noticed any major issues before, but now that she had a comparison with the Sinclair family, the gap between them was immediately obvious.
Victoria turned on the TV and chatted with Kendall while they watched. They had talked during meal, so Victoria already had a certain understanding of Kendall.
Before she was married, Victoria was the daughter of a financial magnate, skilled in music, chess, calligraphy, and painting. After getting married, she became a well-cared-for wealthy wife. It could be said that Victoria had a wide range of knowledge and many topics to discuss with Kendall.
Gradually, Victoria realized that although Kendall was young, she could answer many topics fluently and had her own unique insights. Especially when it came to knowledge about local customs and geography, Kendall spoke eloquently and seemed very familiar with some foreign countries.
Victoria asked curiously, "Kendall, do you like traveling?"
"I do, but I haven't traveled much." Kendall took a sip of the flower tea on the table. "Most of my knowledge comes from books."
Victoria sighed with emotion. "It's rare to see a young girl who loves reading these days. What did you major in at university?"
Kendall replied, "Minor languages."
Victoria gave Kendall a thumbs-up. "No wonder you have such an elegant demeanor. You must have been amazing when you were studying!"
Kendall smiled humbly. "Not at all."
The two sat on the sofa and chatted for a while. Kendall took the initiative to say, "Where is young master Nathan? Can we go see him?"
Victoria was delighted that Kendall brought up the topic. She got up from the sofa. "He's upstairs. Nathan is the same age as you, so you can just call him by his name. Also, if you don't mind, you can call me Aunt Victoria. I'll look out for you here in Orapolis."
Befriending the Sinclair family was a valuable connection.
Regardless of whether she would need it in the future, having a friend was always better than having an enemy.
Moreover, so far, the Sinclair family had given her a very good impression.
Kendall smiled and changed her address. "Aunt Victoria. "
Victoria happily acknowledged her and then led Kendall upstairs. "Let's go to Nathan's room."
As she went up the stairs, she reassured Kendall, "Don't worry. Although Nathan is withdrawn, his emotions are very stable. He never throws tantrums or gets violent."
Kendall nodded and voiced her thoughts. "If Nathan sees me and shows strong rejection like he would with a stranger, I will leave immediately."
Victoria quickly said, "It's alright, it's alright. I'm already very grateful that you're helping me by coming to our house."
In truth, Victoria felt a little uncertain.
No one but Nathan himself knew why he was acting so unusually these past few days by waiting at the hotel.
Their guess that he was waiting for Kendall was just speculation among the three of them.
Victoria only hoped that after meeting Kendall once today, Nathan would stop going to the hotel.
Which mother wouldn't feel heartache seeing her son waiting by the elevator for hours every day?
Nathan's room was on the second floor. Victoria stood in front of the closed door and knocked. "Nathan, open the door. I brought you some fruit."
A moment later, there was a slight sound from inside the room.
The door was pulled open from the inside, and Nathan's figure appeared behind the door.
Kendall looked up slightly and saw the handsome face she had only caught a glimpse of in the elevator that night.
He stood there, six-foot-one, with a clear and handsome face, a calm expression, and a naturally noble and aloof aura.
His exquisite and outstanding appearance was deceptive.
If she didn't know he had autistic tendencies, it would be hard to notice that he was different from ordinary people at first glance.
But upon closer inspection, she could see that his expression was somewhat rigid, not as lively and flexible as a normal person's.
Furthermore, Nathan's beautiful eyes were too clear and devoid of emotion.
After opening the door, Nathan first saw Victoria standing at the entrance. He lowered his head, his dark eyelashes downcast, and stared at Victoria's empty hands with an indifferent gaze.
"The fruit is right here." Victoria smiled and moved aside. Kendall, who was standing not far behind her, stepped forward, holding a small plate of fruit that Victoria had just washed.
Nathan's gaze instinctively followed Victoria to Kendall. Victoria watched anxiously. Usually, when Nathan saw other people in the house, he would quietly retreat back to his room and wouldn't come out no matter who called him.
Kendall knew that Nathan was averse to outsiders, but she didn't know the extent of that aversion.
Seeing Nathan stand motionless by the door, staring at her, Kendall took a few steps forward and tentatively offered him the plate of fruit. "Do you want some?"
Then, Victoria, who had been worried sick, watched as her youngest son, who had never shown any emotional reaction or interacted with any outsider, not only stared at Kendall when she approached but also carefully reached out with both hands and took the fruit from Kendall.
Although he didn't say anything, Victoria could sense a trace of nervous confusion in his movements.
