Chapter One
“Come on beautiful, open it!” Kai exclaims excitedly, bouncing up and down on the couch next to me.
I can’t help but chuckle as I stare at the envelope that holds my G.E.D results.
A lot is riding on this little white envelope and that makes me way more nervous than I would be normally if these were normal circumstances.
We need to get to the training academy, my gifts need unbinding, the guys supernatural sides need unlocking and Levi needs to get there as soon as possible since his demon has decided to somehow make an appearance.
Something that is still baffling all three of my father’s a few weeks later.
Ideally they wanted to get us to the academy quicker but the human (that feels so damn weird to say) schooling system is slow as fuck, so it took a while before I could take the test. If the results in this envelope are good then we will be leaving for the training academy tomorrow afternoon.
Our bags are all packed and the flights have been booked.
Far too presumptuous if you ask me and it makes me even more nervous.
It’s like tempting fate as far as I’m concerned.
Knot hops up onto my lap dislodging Kai who chuckles before she gently grips the envelope with her teeth and tugs it lightly as if to say come on, get it over with, open the damn thing.
I chuckle at her antics and aware that all of the guys eyes are on me, even though they’re pretending to be doing other things, I slowly open the envelope and pull out the papers inside, reading them carefully.
“I did it!” I grin a massive sigh of relief leaving me.
“Congratulations!” Jax says leaning over the back of the couch and kissing me, making the sparks hum happily.
Now that we’ve been around each other continuously for a couple of weeks the sparks have settled and we no longer have the overwhelming, not in control of our own actions, reaction like we had at first.
They all kiss me as they congratulate me.
“Should we be concerned that you sound so relived?” Levi asks his eyebrow raising. “You told us you had it in the bag.” He chuckles, his eyes flash the red of his demon eyes for a second before turning back.
I love it when his demon side comes out to play. People keep telling me that I should be cautious and wary at least. He’s my Levi though, one of my bonded soulmates, he would never hurt me and I could never be wary of him.
I actually can’t wait to see his fully shifted demon form. From what I’ve seen so far he’s going to look breath taking. I shake my head trying dislodge the thoughts and try to remember what it was that he asked me before I got distracted thinking about his demon form.
“I did but I was still nervous. It’s one thing knowing that I could pass my G.E.D if I wanted to, it’s a completely different thing to actually do it.” I explain.
“I get that, Titch.” Maverick says kissing me on my forehead on the way to put groceries in the kitchen.
“We need to celebrate!” Hunter suggests.
“We’re leaving tomorrow, what did you have in mind?” Kai asks his head tilted adorably.
“I don’t know, I thought of celebrating that’s about as far as I got,” he shrugs in reply and I chuckle.
“I’ve got loads of packing still left to do. By that I mean I didn’t want to test fate by assuming I’d pass and haven’t packed anything yet.” I grimace slightly and Kai bursts out laughing as Levi, Mr. Organised, looks at me with a mixture of amusement and exasperation.
“Maybe you should do that now before we celebrate?” He suggests.
“Nah I’ll do it in the morning. I’m tired now. Plus it’s still irritating me slightly that my dad’s won’t tell us anything else about the school. I’m not even sure what to pack.” I finish.
“Remember they said it was less like a school, we’d only have a few lessons on what supernatural we will become and something like protocols, I think he said.” Jax says.
“He was stupidly vague about that last lesson too,” Hunter grunts.
“He was pretty damn clear that it would be a training facility though, so I’ve made sure that I’ve packed loads of training gear.” Mav adds.
“I think it might be a good idea to make sure we’re armed too.” Levi suddenly suggests his eyes flickering between red and green.
“I was about to protest but actually I agree. The way my fathers behaved makes me think that something else is happening and I’d rather not go into unknown territory unarmed.” I explain.
The guys all nod in agreement.
“I have this feeling that we should take knives and swords more than guns. I don’t know why but I think it would be a bad idea to take guns with us.” I frown as I try to explain the niggling feeling in my gut.
Knot yips once in her fox form, gaining the attention of all of us before anyone can reply to me and nods once, clearly agreeing.
“Even if Knot clearly hadn’t just agreed with you, we would trust your gut, Darling.” Levi responds, kissing me lightly.
“Thank you,” I reply softly, smiling.
“Knives are more fun anyway!” Kai grins up at me dangerous glint in his eyes.
I chuckle quietly.
“Do you guys have swords?” I ask curiously.
“Oh yeah. They may not be a popular choice of weapon anymore but Kai’s obsession with them coupled with Levi’s need to be prepared for anything, means that we have all trained with them. Do you know how to fight with them? Obviously you’re good with knives.” Jax asks me.
Clearly remembering the fight with Brent’s men when he had them kidnap me but not before I managed to take a few down with my knives.
“Yeah I do, I’m a bit rusty though. Cain insisted I learnt but I didn’t practice with them as much as I should’ve. Mainly because of lack of access to a sword but also because I didn’t really see the point. Most of the situation where I would’ve needed one the other people would’ve had guns.”
“That makes sense, in some sort of twisted way.” Kai mutters.
“We’ve got one that should work for you. We’ll arm up before we leave tomorrow.” Levi says thoughtfully.
“This is all very well but how the fuck are we going to get weapons onto a plane?” Hunter questions raising his eyebrow.
“Well shit!” I groan.
“I’ll work on it. I really don’t feel safe enough to leave them at home and I don’t particularly want to ask your father’s if there’s a way to get them to the school inconspicuously.
I’d rather ask for forgiveness and have them with us if we need them than ask for permission and inevitably be caught without them. ” Levi tells us.
“Good plan, boss!” Jax smirks earning a look from Levi.
“Maybe Erin knows? I was supposed to ring her and tell her my results anyway, I could ask her?” I suggest.
“Good plan but first, how should we celebrate?” Maverick asks, grinning.
“Takeout and movies?” Hunter answers looking to me and I nod.
“I’m feeling too lazy to do much else!” I chuckle.
“Takeout it is. I’ll order, you ring Erin, tell her the good news and ask her if she knows how we can sneak our weapons on a fucking plane!” Jax chuckles.
We each give him our orders and he walks into the kitchen to make the call as I pull out my phone from underneath Kai, who doesn’t even attempt to move and help me but does smirk up at me the entire time.
I retaliate by leaning down and licking his forehead since it’s the only part of him I can reach.
Maverick and Levi immediately start laughing as Hunter turns away from where he’s trying to choose a film for us to watch and raises his eyebrow in question.
I shrug as Kai splutters explaining that I licked him.
If he was expecting some sort of sympathy from Hunter though he doesn’t get it as Hunter starts laughing with the other two.
Leaving them to it I bring up the contact details for Erin and set up a video chat.
“Hey Sugar tits!” Erin immediately greets me and I grin.
“Hey, Pumpkin ass!” I reply and then immediately burst out laughing at the look of horror on her face, her guys and mine all laughing with me.
“Dude, that’s the best you can do?” She grins.
“Yeah pretty much,” I shrug still grinning.
She opens her mouth, raising a dark red eyebrow and I prepare myself for something more than likely utterly outrageous to come out of her mouth. She stops herself though and starts bouncing where she’s sat.
“Holy fuck balls, did you get your results!?” She says excitedly and I grin.
“Yep!” I say popping the ‘p’.
“Well?” She practically yells.
“I passed!”
“I knew it! This means that you’re coming to the academy right?”
I barely manage to nod before she just carries on talking.
“I’d say you’re going to love it there but honestly some days it sucks balls. I mean yesterday we …” she suddenly stops talking as a hand covers her mouth and Nate’s face comes into view.
“Sorry Sage but we aren’t allowed to tell you anything until you’re actually here. School rules.” He says rolling his eyes and then yelping as he suddenly lets go of Erin’s mouth, “Did you just bite me?” He asks incredulously as Erin sits there with a giant grin on her face.
Jett appears in the shot and kisses her passionately before pulling back and smirking at her dazed look.
“That’s my girl!” He mutters.
“Dude, you’re supposed to be on my side!” Nate exclaims.
“Who says?” Jett grins and they disappear off camera again.
By this point I’m practically on the floor I’m laughing so hard at their antics. Once I’ve calmed down a bit, to the point where I can actually breathe anyway, what Nate said finally fully registers.
“Hang on what do you mean you can’t give us details because of school rules, seriously?”
“Yeah, I really can’t tell you. I would, you know, I would but the consequences are severe and somehow the academy always know when someone breaks the rules.” She says, her face, which was moments ago filled with humour, now shrouded in seriousness.
“Wow, ok,” I frown.
“Sorry.” she says again.
