Chapter One #2
“Don’t be, I get it.” I reassure her, it’s not her fault that she can’t tell me.
“We wanted to ask you something actually, we don’t think it would be wise to arrive at the academy unarmed, call it a gut instinct,” I begin to say and Erin nods vigorously, as one of her guys shoots her a warning look and she mimes locking her lips, “however we have to fly for the first part of the journey and we have no idea how we can get them through airport security?” I explain hoping she has a solution because honestly I’m stumped.
“Oh yeah I get it. Any of your guys good with computers?” She asks and Levi nods his head.
“Yeah, why?”
“Well there’s a specific document that will allow you to carry whatever the fuck you want on board an aircraft.
I’ll get Damon to send it over to you. You guy’s will have to fill it out with relevant information and link up your photo’s.
Not entirely hard to do with no tech knowledge but infinitely easier if someone has it.
I’m actually surprised your dad didn’t tell you about it.
It’s standard for all new students to have the form since nine times out of ten they either have a background in the military, the police or are the kinds of people that always like to be armed anyway. ”
“I’m sure it just slipped his mind.” I say as the wheels in my head start turning, it seems a pretty big thing for him to just forget to tell me though.
I share a look with Erin, clearly on the same page.
“I’ve sent it to your encrypted address Levi!” Damon calls from offscreen.
I keep forgetting that these guys have met before and although they’re all new to me they aren’t to each other.
“Thanks dude, I’ll sort it now. It shouldn’t take me long.” He replies, hopping up off the couch and running upstairs, presumably to get his laptop.
I turn my attention away from watching Levi’s ass as he runs up the stairs and back to Erin, who smirks.
“You were so just perving!” She chuckles making the guys pay attention.
“Oh yeah definitely, I freely admit it. Levi’s got a gorgeous ass!
” I grin and chuckle as Levi pauses on the way back down the stairs and lets an inhuman growl escape as he smirks at me, flashing a bit of fang, the newest development in the demon thing.
Levi has small fangs now that make an appearance as regularly as his red eyes, claws and growl.
I fucking love them.
Erin’s eyes widen slightly when she hears the sound but her slightly worried look quickly turns into a grin when Levi wraps his hand around my neck, tilts my head back and kisses me firmly. Making my pulse race and my thighs clench.
“Damn that was hot!” She chuckles when Levi finally pulls back and takes his laptop over to the couch by the coffee table setting it up.
“Uh huh,” I mumble and her grin widens as Kai chuckles from my lap, his focus on the Tv still although obviously not entirely as his smirk widens into a grin.
“You back yet?” Erin sass’s and I stick my middle finger up at her.
“Yes!” I grin.
“What time are you getting here tomorrow?”
“I think our flight is booked for twelve thirty…” I say unsure.
“That’s right, Titch,” Maverick confirms for me.
“Ok so you won’t be here until well into the evening then,” she says absently and I frown.
It won’t take us that long to get there, it’s only a two hour flight and then an hour or so drive to the school. We should be there well in time for dinner.
“I don’t . . .” I start.
“Sorry I forgot where you were for a second. You should be here in time to grab a drink at least!” She smirks.
I eye her for a second, feeling like I’m not seeing something that I should but either her poker face is really that good or she is telling the truth.
I let it go.
“Yeah, that sounds about right!” I reply. “You owe me first round don’t forget!” I remind her grinning.
“No bitch you owe me first round!” She immediately fires back, chuckling.
The doorbell rings making Kai jump up for the first time since I sat down on the couch.
“Foods here!” He yells excitedly sprinting towards the door.
“I’ll leave you to it! Can’t wait to see you.”
“Me neither, we definitely still need that talk!”
“Don’t worry I haven’t forgotten.” She grins before her expression becomes serious again. “Sage, be careful travelling tomorrow.”
The words themselves are innocent enough, the usual sort of thing you say to someone you care about before they go on a long journey but her tone conveys a completely different, darker, almost warning. It’s severe enough that my guys all share a look, having picked up on it too.
“We will.” I reply nodding slightly to let her know I understand what she isn’t saying.
We say goodbye but the worry never leaves her eyes and it leaves me somewhat confused.
“So we’re definitely going armed tomorrow then,” Jax states simply, once we’ve hung up.
“I think that would be wise.”
“Alright enough of the serious, it sounds like we’re going to get a lot of it tomorrow and judging from what Erin said most likely for the entire time we are training at the academy. Tonight we celebrate the fact that Sage passed her G.E.D!” Kai says sounding surprisingly serious for a change.
“Sounds good to me. Pizza me!” I reply with enthusiasm.
“Pizza you?” Hunter asks before cracking up laughing.
“It’s a thing!” I defend, my mouth already full of pizza.
“It’s a Sage thing!” Mav chimes in and I glare at him, the effectiveness of it ruined since my mouth is stuffed full of cheesy goodness.
“Before this devolves further, what film do you want to watch, Darling?” Levi asks, effectively cutting off whatever Hunter was going to say next.
“I’m not bothered, something light-hearted though?” I suggest.
“Got it, I know just the film.”
Levi gets up and starts rooting around in their vast DVD collection.
I was surprised that they didn’t have them digitally on something like Netflix or Prime when I first saw how many they have but apparently they’re internet can be a bit unreliable so they decided to buy their favourites on DVD instead.
We spend the rest of the evening eating pizza and watching films. I get an extremely strong feeling that this is going to be the last chance for some proper down time for a while.
Erin’s warning and odd behaviour on the phone coupled with this nagging feeling in my gut has me convinced we’re about to walk into something a lot more complex than my fathers have let on or maybe even know themselves.
Because of that I’m determined to soak up as much peace and togetherness as I can and we probably end up going to bed a lot later than we should considering we have such a busy day tomorrow and an early start.
Well I have an early start since I still have to pack my shit.
I absolutely regret my decision to not test fate now.
I’m still paranoid enough to admit to myself at least that I still wouldn’t have packed before I got my results even if it meant not getting up stupidly early.
I settle down in bed between Kai and Jax, and fall asleep with a happy sleepy smile on my face.
I just know that tomorrow’s going to throw some shit our way . . . Fucking bring it!
