Rehan wasn't the type to back down easily. The warning purv gave him should have been enough, but instead of stepping back, he saw it as a challenge. A power play.
And if there was one thing Rehan hated, it was losing.
The next day, he found Divya alone in the library. She was lost in her books, her brows furrowed in focus. She looked soft, unaware-exactly how he liked it.
Sliding into the chair next to her, he leaned in, lowering his voice. "Didn't expect to see you here alone, Divya."
She tensed immediately but didn't look up. "I don't want to talk to you, Rehan."
"But we need to," he said smoothly. "Purv's little display of power? It doesn't scare me. And I don't think it should scare you either."
She shut her book and finally met his gaze, her eyes cold. "I don't need to be scared. I just don't want anything to do with you."
Rehan chuckled. "You say that now, but are you sure purv is what you really want?" He leaned closer, his voice dropping. "I can give you better."
Divya stood up, pushing her chair back with a sharp scrape against the floor. "Back off, Rehan."
He grabbed her wrist, his grip firm but not painful. "You don't have to act so tough."
That was the last straw.
Divya wrenched her hand free and slapped him. Hard.
The sound echoed in the quiet library, drawing a few heads.
Rehan touched his cheek, his expression twisting into something dark. "You'll regret that."
Divya's voice was unwavering. "No, you will."
And then she turned and walked away, straight to the one person she knew would handle this the way it needed to be handled.
