Chapter 27

Twenty-Seven

It had been fifteen days since Theo had left. That was how I counted the passing of time lately.

I set my paintbrush down, tilting my head to take in the eye I’d created.

It was moody and dark. It had mountains inside of the iris and a city shadowed in the background. For once, Theo wasn’t anywhere in it. But the amount of effort I’d gone through to keep him out of it was extreme.

Lori poked her head around the corner. I was painting on her front porch, hoping getting some distance from the cottage would help with the whole Theo is everywhere vibe.

“Lovely,” she said, squinting through her glasses. “That’s a beautiful shade of blue. It looks familiar.”

I glanced at her and then back at the painting before letting my head fall back and groaning.

“Dammit!” I exclaimed as I took in the painting with a fresh perspective.

Because I’d used the exact same blue as Theo’s eyes.
