Chapter 4 The Red String Clue
Twenty minutes later, the dim bar lights were all turned on.
The sound of police sirens cut clearly through the night.
I sat in the private room wearing the Male Model's jacket, my hands still shaking nonstop.
"Are you okay?"
The Male Model pushed the door open. Seeing my state, he pressed his lips together. "Sorry. I didn't expect this either."
I waved weakly.
He walked closer and placed something in front of me.
It was hot milk tea and snacks.
"I heard sweet things help after a scare." He rubbed his nose. "Consider it an apology for being reckless tonight."
I mumbled in agreement and reached for the straw, but my hands shook too much to tear the wrapper.
He couldn't stand it, tore it open, inserted the straw, and held it to my mouth.
"Drink."
I lowered my head slowly, leaned in, and bit the straw to sip.
An officer pushed the door open right then. "He Tingzhou, are you done?"
So the Male Model undercover was named He Tingzhou. It sounded nice.
He Tingzhou handed me the milk tea, made sure I held it steady, then turned.
"What is it?"
The colleague said, "The victim's identity is confirmed. It's the bar owner."
"The primary crime scene should be the kitchen. We found blood traces."
Actually, when I opened the freezer earlier, I had already recognized that twisted, ferocious face. But hearing the confirmation now still made my heart sink.
He Tingzhou noticed my expression and looked down at me.
"Not feeling well?"
I pressed my lips.
"No, it's just that I knew the owner pretty well..."
He Tingzhou patted my shoulder to comfort me.
But another officer spoke.
"We found this Red String on the victim. According to other bar staff, the last time they saw this Red String, it was on Lu Xiaoning."
"Lu Xiaoning, can you explain why your item was on the victim?"
