“Sounds good, but give me a heads-up before it’s time to be there so I know what shoes to wear.”

“Will do,” I assured her as she walked past us.

“Shoes?”

“She’s not going to wear sandals if she has to use a shovel, and she'd want her rubber boots if we decide to check on the livestock.”

“What? Why would you need . . .”

Ziggy still had me bent back over his thigh, so he couldn’t defend himself when Petra slapped the back of his head on her way out. “Dumbass. You should have waited until after dark to get rid of the truck. What kind of criminals do they have in New York?”

Ziggy’s expression was priceless as he lifted me upright again. “Did she just hit me?”

“It was barely a tap,” I said, rolling my eyes and pulling out of his arms. “But she does have a point. Everyone sees everything in this neighborhood. That’s a great thing for safety and security, but a bad thing if you're trying to do something under the radar.”

“Obviously.”

“And if you’re going to do illegal things, I’d prefer that you not store any evidence in or around your house or mine.”

“I didn’t plan to do this. It sort of fell into my lap, and I .

. .” I narrowed my eyes, waiting to pounce the moment he finished that lie.

Realizing my trap, he changed course. “I was happy it did, because I’ve been planning something like today’s events since I met you, although I would have preferred a different ending. ”

“One that doesn’t include him needing his truck later?”

“If you’re the doctor and can twist words that well, I can’t imagine how adept your sister is at making vague, open-ended comments that trip people up when they’re lying. And they can’t be used against you in an investigation.”

“It’s a skill we learned young to keep ourselves out of trouble.”

“I know I haven’t spent much time with your mom, but I can’t imagine she was horrible to any of you when you screwed up. And considering your dad threatened to kill me in quite a few inventive ways, I still can’t picture him abusing you.”

I waved my hand dismissively. “Not my parents. The feds. Once they get their teeth in you, it takes an act of God to get them to drop it. That’s why I don’t want anything you do leading back to me, my house, or my family.

I’m sure there are more than a few still holding a grudge, and I’m not prepared to deal with the fallout if they get a warrant and toss my house. ”

“The fallout?”

“It would be easier to burn it down and start over than try to reorganize after a thorough search.”

“You know this from experience?”

“Yes. You should ask my mom how they left our house. Don’t get Dad involved, though, because he gets really worked up about how they treated his motorcycles and his tools when they tossed the garage.”

“What exactly were they looking for?”

“Which time? You’re trying to change the subject, Nip, but I’m still stuck on what happened before and after our phone conversation, and where and what condition he might be in now.”

“When I left, he was sporting a black eye and needed to change his clothes.”

“Blood?”

“He wet himself when the men involved in our conversation found out Robert had given Max a black eye.”

“So he wasn’t alone. I guessed as much. Which ones were with him?”

“With who, where?” I glared at him, and he shrugged innocently. “I’m not sure what you’re talking about.”

“I’ll find out.”

“Not from me.”

I couldn’t stop myself from smiling. “Did they traumatize you?”

“No!”

“Not even just a little bit?”

Ziggy looked away before he shrugged. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

I hooted with laughter, walking into him and wrapping my arms around his waist. “Did you mean what you said earlier?”

“Which part?”

I slid my hand up his side until it rested on his chest, feeling him tense before he admitted, “Yes, I love you, Kitten. What’s not to love?”

“Most people who know me could make a list.”

“I’m not interested in what anyone but you thinks about me,” he assured me. “Although, it would be nice if my kids could get along with you.”

“I’ll be on my best behavior.”

“I found out something else very interesting today.”

“What’s that?” I asked, sliding my hand down to his waist again.

“There’s a bill in front of the New York State Senate to make it illegal for a resident to own a flamethrower. No such rule in Texas.”

“And if there were?”

“I’m with you, Kitten, for now and always. Isn’t it obvious that I like to live on the wild side?”

“You took a hostage for me, Nip.”

“If you want to look at it like that, you’re more than welcome to.”

I held onto his belt as I got down on my knees in front of him and heard him hiss as I cupped his cock through the front of his pants. “I like to receive meaningful gifts, Nip. I like it alot.”

“I’ll remember that,” Ziggy said, resting his hand lightly on my head.

By the time I got his pants unzipped and took his cock into my mouth, his entire body was vibrating like a live wire.

When I reached up and rested my hand on top of his to encourage him to move me however he pleased, I thought he was done for.

Lucky for me, the man I loved had an alarmingly quick recovery time.
