Chapter 62

It had been a few days since Sonnet’s heat cycle, and she was now nearing the end of it.

She had spent every hour sleeping, being bathed, and best of all, being embraced by her alphas.

She almost didn’t want it to end, but she was exhausted, sore, and ready for more. Sonnet was ready to make the bond.

“Drink this,” Zayden demanded, pushing a glass of water into her hands. It was her fifth glass, and it wasn’t even noon yet.

She hummed and brought the glass to her lips.

You did a good job being in control.

It was fun. Our alphas were amazing.

“Baby?” Jude nuzzled her neck. “How are you feeling?”

Sonnet locked eyes on Zayden.

I feel ready.

She leaned back into Jude’s chest and smiled. Her teeth were aching. She knew it was time. If not now, then never.

It was as if Zayden could read her mind. He knelt in front of her, taking the glass from her hands, and smiled softly. He was so close, his neck was ready for the taking. She knew exactly where she wanted to mark each of them.

“Sweetheart?”

Sonnet licked her bottom lip. She untangled herself from Jude’s arms and threw her arms around Zayden. “I love you.”

Zayden immediately wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into his lap. He held on so tightly she didn’t know if he’d let go.

“How are you feeling?” Felix asked from nearby.

She rolled her tongue over her teeth and gums. “I feel more awake than I have in the past few days. And…” She sighed and looked at each of her alphas. “I feel like I want to make all of this permanent.”

For a moment, she hesitated. After everything they had been through, would all four of them still want to bond with her?

Zayden cupped her face and kissed her deeply. “I’m ready for you.”

Her heart stopped, and then everyone else echoed Zayden’s words, even Kai.

They were ready, and so was she.

I’m ready.

Sonnet trailed her finger over Zayden’s shoulder, and when he tilted his head to the side to give her better access, she couldn’t hold back her happiness. All four of her alphas were about to be hers forever. Their souls were about to sing in harmony as was destined from the very beginning.

Sonnet sank her teeth right where Zayden’s neck met his shoulder. A bite that was once given could never be taken back. There is no room for rejection now.

Felix was next, and she bit him similarly to how she bit Zayden, but on the other side. He held her close, playing with her hair, before reluctantly handing her over to Jude, whose smile was like pure sunlight.

Jude could hardly hold still as she mulled over where to bite him. She chose his forearm, and he happily held her and rubbed her back as she sank her teeth into him.

When she turned to Kai, he was patiently waiting, holding out his arms to welcome her. She crashed into him, scent-marking his neck, and purring.

“You sure you want this?” She asked softly, just for him to hear.

“You’re all I’ve ever wanted, firecracker.” He kissed her deeply before holding out his forearm, already reading her mind.

She saw her alphas as mirrors to each other, and Kai had caught on. She happily bit into him, but the bond was not yet complete. Not until she received their marks, too.

Nothing could have prepared her for what being truly bonded would feel like. All those classes she took in high school, all those seminars, and yet this sensation was completely indescribable.

When Zayden initiated the first mark mimicking hers, it felt like being stung by a thousand bees.

The pain quickly morphed into a melting sensation, as if she could feel everything flowing in her veins.

Everything felt warm, and then she felt something else.

Zayden. She could feel everything he could, as if a door had been opened, allowing each of them into the other’s world.

She could feel his strength, his confidence, and his complete devotion to her. He harmonized her own emotions.

Each of her alphas marked her similarity to their own, and each mark brought a new wave of emotions.

When it was all done and over with, her mind felt different.

She could let any of her alphas in or lock them out if she wanted privacy.

They could do the same. But at this moment, every door was open to each other.

Everyone could feel everything. It was beautiful.

Sonnet’s eyes glazed over with tears, and she didn’t try to hold them back. She ran her fingers over her marks.

They’re so beautiful.

We did it. We’re bonded.

Sonnet collapsed onto her nest with all her alphas and purred. She poured all her warm, happy emotions into her mind, flooding the gates and letting each of them feel what she did. They responded the same way.

“This feels amazing,” Sonnet whispered.

A part of her, however, was angry. If her birth mother had sought help sooner, perhaps she could have bonded with a good man. Maybe she could have lived the life Sonnet had.

Our mother made bad choices, but in the end, I think she lived the way that made sense to her. There were dark moments, but not all of them were bad.

You’re right.

Sonnet’s mother didn’t live a similar life, but deep down, she understood why. Her birth mother sought out love frequently, but she never needed destined love to chain her. She never wanted to be chained, and if that’s what romantic love was for her, Sonnet was glad she never had it.

She’s free now. I hope she’s happy.

Sonnet turned to Felix, a tired smile playing on her lips. “Can I ask you for a favor?”

“You can ask and have anything you want, sweetheart.”

“Don’t give her too much power,” Kai laughed.

“I’m not asking for too much, don’t worry. I was just wondering if you could make your famous waffles for breakfast tomorrow. We could all wake up early and eat them at the park to watch the sunrise.”

Just like mother used to promise us.

Felix cupped her face softly, his turquoise eyes sparkling. “That sounds like a perfect morning.”

The rest of their lives sounded perfect to Sonnet. She remembered being at the beach with Zayden and pretending to foresee the future. Now, it wasn’t a silly gimmick. Now, it is real.

The future was still terrifying. They had a new house to move into, new lives to live, and choices to make. Sonnet had grandparents to get to know and a puppy to train properly. Yet, the fear wasn’t paralyzing. It was exciting and freeing. Sonnet felt more capable than she ever had before.

Love was complicated. It didn’t matter who it was with. Parents, alphas, or even yourself. Especially with yourself. But that’s how Sonnet knew it was real. Easy love faded. Real love was work, and she was happy to spend the rest of her life with these four alphas.

And with you.

Me?

Yeah. I’m sorry for hiding you away, for hating you without meaning to. But you are the best part of me.

Aw, stop. You’ll make us cry!

Sonnet closed her eyes, held by each of her alphas, and fell asleep to the sound of their harmonized heartbeats.
