Chapter 9 The Divorce Papers
Xie Yiheng and I went to many countries on our honeymoon.
When we arrived at an island, the guide said it was a famous Paragliding destination.
It was a thrill I had never tried.
Colorful arcs against the blue sky, accompanied by shouts of release.
My heartbeat quickened little by little, and my body grew warm with it.
I wanted to try.
Xie Yiheng held my hand.
"It's too dangerous. We can do something else."
But his gaze lingered on that stretch of scenery for a long time.
I clearly saw the nostalgia surface in his eyes.
Shen Leyue had once shown me photos of them growing up together.
Among them was their Paragliding experience at fifteen.
I was curious.
In that moment, was he really thinking of my safety—
or holding a private wish to keep that memory belonging only to the two of them?
Later, I understood.
Love grows heavy through difference.
Xie Yiheng was a genius architect everyone praised.
He took on landmark projects of massive scale.
But after Shen Leyue's Divorce, he was willing to design her new house with his own hands.
Every night he drew plans in the study, his eyes held a joy brighter than the desk lamp.
Shen Leyue's ex-husband—the Male Lead of this world—came to find me once.
He looked at me with pity.
"Your husband spends all day with the woman he liked for years, and you don't care at all."
After Xie Yiheng learned of it, he explained the whole story to me.
"That man cheated, and he kept harassing Leyue. I was only protecting her for a while."
"A Yu, don't misunderstand."
He seemed a little flustered—rare for him.
My tone was gentle.
"It's fine. I don't mind."
Xie Yiheng seemed stunned for a moment.
I truly didn't care.
I had always been a passive person.
I measured how much affection I should return based on how others' feelings for me changed.
Just as his love for me and for Shen Leyue always had lighter and heavier, less and more—
my love for him worked the same way.
When Xie Yiheng's feelings for me burned hottest, I had loved him.
Slowly, love became habit. Living out a quiet lifetime like that wouldn't have been bad.
Now, what I felt more was the ease of shedding the chains.
The Female Lead and Male Lead could both break free of their set paths and choose different lives.
Why should I keep living this frog-in-warm-water existence out of habit?
When the comfort zone stopped being comfortable.
When habit no longer made life convenient.
When I realized mineral water wasn't irreplaceable like plain boiled water, and wasn't as refreshing as a fizzy drink—
I decided it was time to change how I lived.
On our third wedding anniversary.
Xie Yiheng had carefully prepared a candlelit dinner.
He even turned off his phone.
"Just the two of us today. I have something to tell you."
We were as in sync as always.
My heart pounded. My body started to heat up, just like when I saw the Paragliding before.
Only this time, I would act on it.
"I have something to tell you too."
Under his expectant gaze,
I smiled and took out a Divorce agreement.
"Xie Yiheng, let's get a Divorce."
