Chapter 13 The Final Misunderstanding
The path to the control room was covered in sticky black liquid. There was almost nowhere clean to step.
These were probably guards who had been poisoned by a White Ray's tail spike.
No. To be precise, they were moles from the Monster Research Institute planted inside the Monster Supervision Office.
Every day, one or two monsters would be taken out for "medical checks" under the pretense of illness. No test results came back. Their files only gained one word: deceased.
So I quietly screened the guards and placed those truly loyal to the Monster Supervision Office in the shadows. I didn't expect them to reveal themselves so quickly.
Before I pulled Sa'er out of the underwater sector, I couldn't figure out why they went through so much trouble to plant so many people here. Now I understood everything.
The doors to the control room slid open to both sides and closed again. The room was deathly silent. Only the blazing white lights flickered twice before completely going out.
A strong gust of wind came from behind me. The tail spike swept toward me with full force, but stopped right before hitting my back, retracting its power. It wrapped around my waist instead, binding my hands along with it.
The invisible Sa'er revealed himself, blood flowing from his neck. He grabbed my throat and slammed me onto the table.
"You really were lying to me."
"What?"
Sa'er tightened his grip, his eyes turning red.
"You have a family relationship with Sheng Tianyun."
"So you approached me and tried to make me go to the Monster Research Institute because you wanted me to walk into a trap, right?"
I must have eaten too much to do that.
Seeing that I didn't speak or struggle, he released me on his own and pulled his tail back. He grabbed my arm and shook it. "Say something."
"The fact that you can ask these questions means you don't actually believe I sold you out, doesn't it?"
Sa'er ground his teeth, looking like he wanted to pounce and bite my throat off.
"Don't I deserve an explanation?"
"Why could they come to me with your orders? Why did you approach me?"
Tsk. What a silly fish.
