Chapter 3 Variety Show Messages
I still gave in to the evil forces. My agent said it was rare to get a face-time variety show. If I didn't go she would send me to an Idol Survival Show.
I was already twenty-six. With these old bones jumping around on stage I was afraid my knees would crack and the next stop would be the hospital orthopedic ward.
I didn't know where Paparazzi Bro got the news. The production hadn't released the full list, only mentioned that several star guests would bring their own close friends, so half the guests were still secret. Yet he already knew I was joining.
Paparazzi Bro had tailed me for years and we had each other's contacts. He sent me a message.
I don't know why, but seeing you finally have a decent gig I feel a faint relief. It's like my freeloading daughter finally found a proper job...
I replied with a string of ellipses.

About Ji Mingxu, besides all the public info there was one extra line—zero scandals since debut, possibly gay.

I couldn't hold back and asked curiously, "Paparazzi Bro, where do you get all this info? Connections inside the production? Is it reliable?"
Paparazzi Bro replied, "Mind your own business about societal stuff."

Before recording Ji Mingxu still messaged me on WeChat. "Don't say I don't take care of you. This time I'm letting you hitch a big ride!"
I replied with a question mark but he didn't answer. He was probably busy.
