Chapter 5 Breakfast and Gossip
I slept late, so naturally I woke up late.
Plus, her place was farther from the company than the home I shared with He Yuheng.
I rushed as fast as I could.
I made it to the office right at the last second before the punch-in deadline.
On my desk sat a Breakfast.
I recognized the logo on the paper bag instantly—it was from that one place nearby.
Even before opening it, the rich aroma of roasted almond croissants hit me.
Next to it was a bottle of yogurt.
My usual Breakfast combo.
My whole body tensed.
This Breakfast… couldn’t be from He Yuheng, right?
The colleague beside me answered my unspoken question. “President He had someone deliver these early this morning. One for everyone in the department. Hurry and eat!”
“…”
I felt a little panicked. “Why did he send so many?”
Another colleague replied, “Just our department got them. Feels like we owe it to Xiao Xue.”
“Yeah, Jiang Xue, you know President He and didn’t tell us earlier?”
Jiang Xue was already beaming.
“I don’t know him personally. It’s a friend of mine who does. They’re close, so I got to benefit too.”
Other colleagues chimed in. “Anyway, we should still thank you. I was worried after President He’s Moments post last night that he was going to punish our department. Who knew we’d wake up to loving Breakfast from him this morning.”
Another colleague cupped her face dreamily. “Is this… sending Breakfast for one person, but covering the whole department?”
“…” So annoying.
I quietly pushed my portion aside.
Of course, the culprit had to message me right then: [Breakfast is on your desk. Remember to eat.]
I ignored it.
Everyone got one—why did he phrase it like it was specially bought for me?
I opened my schedule to check today’s tasks.
But the gossip around me kept going.
“No wonder Xiao Xue dared to make Sang Wan change to President He’s picture yesterday. Turns out she had backing.”
“You and your friend really know how to play. You actually got President He to change his Profile Picture to Sang Wan’s.”
“Haha, I completely misunderstood yesterday.”
“Same here! I really thought President He and Sang Wan had something going on.”
Jiang Xue smiled lightly. “Sang Wan, you don’t mind, right? Consider this Breakfast President He’s apology to you.”
I rolled my eyes inwardly.
But the colleagues around us were thrilled with the gossip.
“Wow! This feels like setting the beacon fires to tease the feudal lords!”
“Poor Sang Wan though, haha.”
“Your friend must be a real beauty to make President He listen like that.”
“Is President He chasing your friend?”
“I’m truly eye-opened! I thought someone with President He’s personality would never chase a girl. Turns out he’s so good at winning a woman’s heart!”
I tried hard to focus on work.
But the voices drowned out everything.
I realized I couldn’t stand it anymore.
Especially after learning that Jiang Xue’s “friend” was a woman—the unbearable feeling reached its peak!
Jiang Xue teased triumphantly. “Oh, I’m not really sure what their relationship is… But if something good happens, I’ll be sure to let everyone know.”
I heard my own voice cutting through hers.
“Is that so? But He Yuheng is already married to me. Is your friend planning to be the mistress?”
