Chapter 14 He Threw Them Out
What I was wearing wasn't my clothes at all.
It was a set of gray-blue cotton pajamas.
The fabric was soft and comfortable, but clearly a lot too big. The sleeves and pant legs hung long, empty on my skinny body.
I panicked, jerked my head up at Ji Yanli, my voice already off.
"You... you took my clothes off?"
Ji Yanli lifted his head from the computer again, pushed up his glasses, and his eyes carried a dislike he didn't bother to hide.
"You threw up all over yourself. The stink could knock a man out.
"I was afraid you'd dirty my bed and blanket.
"I had an assistant wipe you down and change you into clean clothes."
An assistant?
Not him, by his own hands?
Somehow, hearing that explanation, that nameless tightness and embarrassment in me strangely eased a little.
Good that it wasn't him.
"Oh... I see."
I tugged at the too-long pajama sleeve, uncomfortable.
"Then thanks to him."
After I said thanks, I immediately started looking around for my original outfit.
I looked for a while. The bedside was empty. Not even a shadow.
"Uh... where's my clothes?"
Ji Yanli closed the laptop. A light click.
He stood up, tall, looking down at me, his tone so matter-of-fact it pissed me off.
"Threw them out."
"What?"
I blew up at once. "You threw them out for me? That was my best set of clothes."
They were worn, but they were the first new clothes I'd bought after getting out.
Ji Yanli looked at me in my fury. A very faint mockery seemed to pass through his eyes.
"Covered in vomit and mud. What would I keep them for?"
He said it slowly. "This is not a junk station."
