Chapter 38 Don’t Pick Up

Ji Yanli stood where he was. His gaze sank onto my face, heavy.

That look had weight. It burned my skin numb.

After what felt like a century, he finally spoke, slow.

His voice was low. I couldn't hear joy or anger in it.

"Qin Ye, you want to settle with me that badly?"

"Yes!

"I mean what I say!"

I answered firmly.

Ji Yanli stared at me hard. His chest rose and fell a little.

In those deep eyes, something too mixed was rolling.

I couldn't read it.

Right then, Tang Xiaomang called again.

"Don't pick up!"

I had just grabbed the phone when a big hand cut in hard and, with a smack, slammed the phone flying.

The phone hit the wall, bounced onto the carpet, the screen went dark at once, and the ringtone cut off.

"Fuck you!"

My eyes went blood-red. I didn't think. I threw a punch.

That punch landed solid on Ji Yanli's cheek, a dull sound.

Ji Yanli's head snapped to the side. A clear red mark rose on his face at once.

He slowly turned back, pushing his tongue against the cheek that had been hit.

The last thread of mixed feeling in his eyes faded. What was left looked terrifyingly cold, like a storm.

"You hit me again?"

"So what if I hit you?"

I was like a trapped beast fully set off.

"I admit it. I used to be a bastard.

"But now I just want to stay far away from you.

"And you, what right do you have to bring me to this place? What right do you have to lock down my freedom?"

I threw another punch. "I don't even want the money.

"From today on, we're even!"
