Chapter Twenty Four
Ω Blakely Ω
When I wake up the next morning, I smile as I feel Bronx’s arms tighten around me. He groans and pulls me into his chest. “It’s too early in the morning…” he mumbles into my hair.
I bite back a laugh. “I’m pretty sure it’s not too early for people who haven’t been up all night,” I tease him.
“I haven’t been up all night,” Bronx scoffs.
I pull away enough to look at his face. He looks like he barely slept while on shift. His hair is a mess. He has deep, dark bags under his eyes. “Okay. Correcting myself. I’m pretty sure it's not too early for people who haven’t been up for the past two days. Have you slept at all?” I question.
There’s no way he’s slept more than two hours at max. I press the back of my palm to his forehead. “Are you feeling alright?”
Bronx is too quiet for my liking. He just stares at me before a soft smile spreads across his lips.
He reaches up and takes my hand away from his forehead before kissing the inside of my palm.
“I’m feeling better now that I’m with you…
” He whispers against my skin. “It was a… long shift. I didn’t sleep much. ”
Bronx looks away from me for a second before he looks back at me. He looks like he did back when we were teenagers, and he was hiding something from me.
I open my mouth, but he shakes his head. “Long shift, butterfly. It happens in this line of work, okay? I’m okay. I feel better being home. I feel better having you here with me.”
“If something is wrong…” I trail off.
When he left to go to work two days ago, I thought he looked different… Now, he just looks drained.
“I promise you that I will tell you. You don’t have to worry about me.” Bronx gets out of bed, and I get to fully stare at him.
He’s…
Flawless.
He doesn’t have a single scar on his tan skin. He’s got back muscles for days. His legs are toned and thick. I’m so in trouble when it comes to him.
Bronx chuckles. “Eyes up here, butterfly.” He snaps his fingers at me.
I feel my cheeks heat up as I look back at his face. “Do you want to get in the shower with me? Or do you want to start on breakfast?”
Did he just ask me if I wanted to shower with him? I blink at him.
“Go start breakfast, butterfly… I’ll just be a few minutes.”
Bronx disappears into the connected bathroom, and I hear the shower turn on. I shake my head and get out of bed. I don’t know how he flips a switch so easily.
I head downstairs to the kitchen and get out everything to make an omelet. I’m worried that Bronx is hiding something from me, but I don’t know if it’s my place to push him to tell me or not…
Could it be about me asking him for a baby? He never brought it up again after our conversation. Maybe I asked for it too soon…
My heart starts to race at the thought. I should’ve kept my mouth shut. I should’ve waited until we were actually together before I questioned him for that.
I really hope I didn't screw this up…
I just got him back. I don't want to lose him again.
