Chapter Thirty Eight
Ω Bronx Ω
After spending every day with Blakely, it feels weird when we don’t spend the day together. I had some last minute things I wanted to check on for the event tomorrow. She texted me that she was going to be on her way home soon.
I already have dinner made and cleaned up. I made spaghetti. Simple and relatively easy to make. I look at the cat tower in the corner of the living room. Kal-El is perched on the top looking out the window like he’s waiting for Blakely to get home.
I shake my head. He was never a loving cat towards me. We just kind of co-existed but now he’s obsessed with my woman.
Blakely walks through the front door, and like a dart, Kal-El jumps off of the tower and runs to her. She laughs and leans down to pick the cat up.
“Well, I see someone has missed me.”
I roll my eyes. “I most definitely did. He just likes to try and steal your attention from me.” I walk towards her.
Blakely laughs before kissing me gently. “He just likes me more because I give him treats.”
“I give him treats,” I huff. I apparently don’t pick out the right treats for him.
“I will always love you the most,” Blakely promises.
I grin at her and lead her to the table. I already have dinner all set up and ready to go.
“I have a meeting with your dad tomorrow…” I know I need to tell her about it… About wanting a longer break. I want to go back to work. I just don’t think I’m fully ready.
“Oh yeah? Are you going to head back to work soon, or wait some more?” she asks. “I don’t mind either way. I want to support you in the best way possible. I’ve really enjoyed you being home, though. I do want to let you know that.”
I chuckle. She’s not the only one who's enjoyed being home. “Babe. You support me all the time. I wanted to talk to you about it, but I think I’d like to take a bit of a longer break… I want to go back to work. I really do, but I think a slightly longer break might be necessary.”
I rub the side of my arm. I love what I do, but I don’t want to push myself.
“That sounds like a good idea. You’ve seemed a lot calmer these last couple months. Are you still going to be at the event with me tomorrow?” I see nervousness flash across her face. I reach over and take her hand.
“There’s nothing to be worried about. I will be there right after my meeting with your dad. I promise, butterfly…”
Blakely’s face lights up at my promise. “Thank you, Bronx. I’m actually kinda excited about it. It’ll be fun to see all the other books and stuff there. Maybe I’ll get you to buy me some.” She takes a big bite of her food.
I chuckle. “I would buy you everything you asked for. Your happiness means the world to me.”
