Tequila Sunrise
Tequila Sunrise
This was a drink that we had every Christmas Day morning after presents.
My uncle insisted it needed to be made with crushed ice, and he would make us a virgin one when we were kids.
It was a whole production to make them, and then we would all stir the drinks together at once to watch the “sunrise.” It’s still one of my favorite drinks, and I’m always reminded of those Christmases growing up.
It puts a smile on my face even before the tequila hits.
INGREDIENTS:
Crushed ice
1 shot tequila
? shot Triple Sec
Orange juice
Grenadine
DIRECTIONS:
Add crushed ice to each glass. Pour one shot of tequila and the triple sec into each glass.
Pour enough orange juice into each glass to almost fill it up.
Carefully pour in the grenadine so it goes to the bottom of the glass—we never measured it, but I’m guessing around ⒈/⒉ shot worth.
Stir with a long spoon (Iced tea spoon) or straw to watch the sunrise.
Enjoy. These can be deceptively good, and we only ever had one, maybe two, on Christmas.
