Chapter 41 - Chayce
I t has been three days since we found Regina in that cave. She never seems to be warm enough. My girl has taken to wearing heavy, thick socks, sweatpants, long-sleeved shirts, and a sweatshirt. If I am home, she burrows into my chest as my dragon generates the heat she craves.
Needing to interrogate our kidnapper, Crispin, Adyr, Deakon, and Arek are at my house acting as security. Is it overkill? Probably. Do I care? Definitely not. Emmalee hasn’t left my girl’s side either. She has been cooking meals and waiting on her hand and foot.
With Brady at my side, we enter the section of the jail where the cells are. These cells are special since they typically house paranormals. When the jail was built, a traveling warlock bespelled them for us, negating the other side of ourselves when enclosed within, regardless of paranormal species.
Spinning a chair around to straddle it, my arms rest on the top of the back as I sit in front of the cell door.
“My name is Sheriff Galloway,” I state flatly.
“Well aware of who you are, Sheriff,” she spits out.
“What is your name?” I ask.
She says nothing, looking at the floor.
“Why are you in our town?”
Again, she refuses to answer.
“Why did you steal from us?”
Still, no answer. I wait her out a few more minutes before giving up. Nodding my head in silent response, I stand, put the chair back against the wall, and walk out.
