Chapter Eleven
Damon slipped out the back door.
Trent held out a bottle of beer. “Is everything okay?”
He sat back and looked at Trent. “Yes. What have her periods been like in the past?”
Damon chuckled when he caught the horrified look on Trent’s face.
“Oh, God. Hell, I don’t know. Grouchy, I guess, but she’s my sister. The last thing I want to talk about is her...” Trent said in disgust and shivered.
“Period?” Damon said with a raised brow.
Trent scowled at him. “Stop talking about it,” he growled.
“Fine.” They sat quietly for a few minutes.
“Man, I’m so glad you’re home,” Trent said.
Damon nodded. “I am more than glad to be home. I thought I wasn’t going to make it a few times.”
“Fuck, just thinking about it makes me emotional.”
Damon reached over to Trent and slapped his shoulder. “Hey, I’m home. That’s all that matters now.” The men finished their beers.
“I’m heading in,” Damon said.
Trent reached for Damon’s empty bottle. “Go. I’ll lock up.”
“You got it. Thank you. Good night.”
Damon quietly closed the door behind him and stared at the woman who had had his heart from the very beginning, and he knew early on it wouldn’t change. She was his only chance at true happiness.
He showered and brushed his teeth before sliding into bed and curling his body around hers. He listened to her soft breathing, the feel of her skin against his was his heaven. He had her where he wanted her and would do whatever he needed to keep it like that.
It felt like he’d just closed his eyes when Damon blinked several times and squinted against the morning sun coming in through the sheer drapes.
He was amazed he had slept through the night without a nightmare.
He hadn’t done that for years. He should have known that just being with her would settle him.
She started moving and then stretched. He lifted himself off the mattress and balanced on his elbow to watch her come alive. It was the first but not the last time he’d be able to experience it.
“Good morning, sweetheart.” He grinned when her head jerked his way, and she looked confused for a moment before a blush covered her face.
“Did you sleep okay?” he asked.
She nodded.
He snorted. “Does it take you a while in the morning to wake up?”
“Are you always this chipper?” she asked, scowling.
He smiled. “Most mornings.” He loved the look of disgust on her face as she tried to roll out of bed.
“Whoa, wait, I need my morning kiss.” He grabbed her arm.
“What? How long have you been awake?”
“A few minutes.”
“Crap. I’m not sure I’ll be able to deal with you every morning.”
He laughed and pulled her until she was tucked under him. He took her mouth with a hunger he knew he’d never stop feeling.
They were both breathing heavily when he raised his head. “You’ll get used to it.”
Emma blinked a few times.
He chuckled and lifted himself from her and the mattress. “I’ll start coffee while you shower.”
She started inching to the side, but her eyes roamed over his naked body. He loved how her eyes widened at his morning erection, and then a desire-filled blush covered her face.
“Are you having cramps, baby?”
She looked confused for a moment. “Oh, yeah. My periods aren’t great.”
“We’ll get you through them.”
Emma nodded and walked past him into the bathroom. He pulled on his clothing and walked out into the kitchen. He started the coffee and then beat eggs to make omelets.
Trent walked in as he was finishing the first one.
“Just in time,” Damon said, handing him a plate with food.
Trent looked down and grinned. “Hot damn. Will you marry me?”
“You’ll have to ask your sister.”
Trent grunted. “Fuck, she’s never been good at sharing.”
Damon laughed. When Emma walked in, he had two more plates on the table and set down orange juice.
He grabbed her around the waist and kissed her hard, ignoring the gagging sounds Trent made behind them.
“I hope you’re hungry.”
“Oh, I just usually have coffee in the morning,” Emma said.
“Well, that is going to change, baby. We talked about this yesterday.”
“Now, wait. I am doing just fine...” she said.
“And I’m telling you that I’ll take better care of you, and you’ll let me.”
One of her brows rose. “Oh, really?”
His hand slid down over her ass and squeezed. “Yes.”
He could sense her wanting to fight him, but she reluctantly gave in. He knew it wouldn’t last, but he was up to any challenge she threw at him.
She sat down and started eating.
Damon couldn’t believe how happy he was at the moment. It was beyond anything he’d experienced before, but he hoped it would happen daily.
“What are you up to today?” he asked.
“I have to go to the office for a bit,” Trent said.
“Could you drop me at the car dealership to pick up my truck?”
“It’s ready?” Emma asked.
“Yes. It didn’t take them long to clear the check. What about you? Would you want to go with me?”
She shook her head. “No, I’ve got some work to do.”
“Okay. I’ll meet you back here.” He caught her hesitation.
“I might have to return to the apartment for a few things.”
His brows snapped together. Her tone of voice was off. Something didn’t feel right, but he couldn’t put his finger on what. He looked toward Trent to see the same confused look on his face.
“Okay. We’ll all meet back here. How’s pizza sound tonight?” Damon asked.
“Good,” Trent said.
“It’s fine with me.” She stood and started collecting plates. The three worked together to clean the kitchen.
“Let’s head out,” Trent said. “I’ll grab my keys.”
Damon nodded and then pulled Emma into his arms. His head descended until his lips pressed against hers, and he took the kiss deeper until they were both pressing against each other in need, and her arms were tight around his waist. He raised his head.
“Fuck, baby. I’ll never get tired of looking at you. You’re so damn pretty. I love it when you wear a skirt. It will make it easier to get to your cunt.”
Her mouth dropped open and then closed as a blush masked her face. “Thank you.”
He smiled when he heard Trent walking back. “We’ll talk later. Be careful, and call me if you need anything. I already put my phone number in your phone.”
Emma nodded. “I will.”
“Good.”
He glanced back one more time. He got the feeling she was holding something back, and he promised himself he’d find out the truth before long.
