Chapter 3 The Truth at the Club

A month ago, Tang Qing returned from abroad.

We went to the most exclusive club in North City to hang out.

As we passed a private room door, I unexpectedly spotted Shen Zong—who had claimed he was working overtime—sitting in the center of a group of young masters, a cigarette pinched between his fingers, its tip glowing red.

In six months of dating, I never knew Shen Zong smoked.

The casual, unrestrained way he acted around his friends was something I'd never seen.

The Shen Zong in there felt both familiar and completely strange.

Seeing me stop, Tang Qing asked, "Someone you know in there?"

I didn't answer.

Tang Qing went on. "The one in the middle is the wildest Princeling in my brother-in-law's circle. His family does both politics and business."

"They say he's the youngest at home. He's always gotten whatever he wanted since he was a kid. No one dares mess with him."

Before I could process what Tang Qing said, voices drifted out from inside.

"What is Shen Zong thinking about? Don't tell me he's thinking about that girlfriend he made a bet with us to win?"

"It's been half a year and he still hasn't gotten tired. Could Shen Zong actually be serious?"

"No way. Our Shen Zong is a master at playing the field. He's just not bored yet."

Hearing those words, my throat tightened.

So... the reason Shen Zong chased me for so long back then was because of a bet with his friends.

Being with me was just a game to him.

I thought I would storm in, confront him, and slap him hard.

But I didn't.

While sitting in our own booth chatting with Tang Qing, I was completely distracted.

Tang Qing seemed to guess my relationship with Shen Zong. She spoke up.

"Shen Zong is the boyfriend you mentioned on the phone before, right?"

"Don't be fooled by how good he is to you now. Once he's tired of you, he'll be more heartless than anyone."

"Guys like him always enjoy toying with people's feelings. Pull out while you're not fully in yet."

I lowered my lashes and took a small sip of wine. "I know."

Tang Qing said men like Shen Zong only chased the novelty.

The more I acted pure and different, the more it might hook him.

The breakup had to happen, but I couldn't be the one to bring it up.

Otherwise, it would never work.

The best way to end things was for Shen Zong to start finding me annoying.

She said no man could stand a girlfriend who was materialistic, complained about his skills in bed, and was insanely clingy.

As long as I followed those three steps, Shen Zong would definitely break up with me.
