Chapter 10 #2

“This is what you’re going to do. You’re going to do as you’re told, or I’m going to kill you.

I’ve had enough of your shit and the way that you treat me.

You’re going to divorce my sister and bring her here so that I can keep an eye on her.

She triggers my depression worse than anyone, but I can’t keep an eye on her and be this depressed at the same time. ”

When he had a look of confusion on his face, she wanted to pull the trigger anyway.

It would solve her purpose, but she might get into trouble.

She wished that she’d talked to her attorney about how much trouble a depressed person like her could get into when they killed someone. She’d deal with him later.

“Maybe you’d know. If someone is as depressed as I am, if they kill someone, will they go to jail?

I want to know before I pull the trigger on you.

I think there should be special rules for people like me, being depressed and all.

” He told her that the same laws would apply.

“Why would they? Don’t people suffer like I do?

I mean, if I were to kill you, one of my triggers would be gone, and I’d feel better.

Wouldn’t that be something someone wants? For me to feel better?”

“I doubt that anyone would want you to kill someone just because they make you depressed.” She explained how it would be better for her if he were dead. “I don’t think you’re going to get away with anything. Murder is murder, no matter how depressed you think you are when you commit it.”

“I believe that you’re wrong.” He shrugged like he didn’t care what she thought. “Disagreeing with me makes me more depressed. You’d be better off just agreeing with me and allowing me to kill you.”

“I don’t want to die. And I’m pretty sure that you’d not get away with it since I have witnesses that I’m here.” She asked who he was talking about. “My brother is here with me. He came along in the event that I needed him.”

“I don’t care about all that. You’ll be dead, and that’s all I’m concerned with at the moment.” She thought about how much better her life would be without the man around. “Yes, I think that I’d be less depressed with you dead.”

Just as she pulled the trigger, something happened to the man. She knew his name was Dresden, but nothing more. He didn’t mean anything to her, so she hadn’t learned it. She looked down at her hand when she realized that the man was gone, but so was her gun.

“What did you do to me?” Her hand was gone, and she couldn’t understand that. “You’ve triggered me again. I hope you’re happy.”

She couldn’t get over that she didn’t have a hand and that her gun was gone.

Then, looking at her doorstep, she saw a great tiger sitting there like he’d been waiting for her to come out all along.

Asking where he’d come from, she started to feel lightheaded.

Asking him again where he’d come from, she had to sit down, or she was going to pass out.

“Who are you?” There was the man again. Like he’d not been the tiger. That was the only thing that she could come up with was that he was the tiger. “Where is the tiger?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. Let me see to your wrist before you bleed out.” He laid her back on the floor and stood over her. “You’ll be all right so long as you get to the hospital right away. I’m going to wrap you up so that you don’t bleed to death.”

“You should be dead.” He said that he’d kept her from killing him. “I want you dead, and you should be. Do you have any idea how depressed it makes me when things don’t go my way?”

He didn’t say anything to her, but she saw the police there. Telling them what she’d done and that a tiger had taken her hand, she was told she was going to the hospital. Things weren’t going her way, and she didn’t like it.

Blake was still sitting in the chair where he’d left her ten minutes ago. She looked like she was thinking hard on something, but he knew it was about her sister. Robin had tried to kill him, and if not for shifting when he did, then he’d be dead.

“Blake?” She looked up at him and smiled. “She’ll be in surgery for another couple of hours. Would you like to go down to the cafeteria and have something to eat?”

“I’m not hungry just now.” He nodded and sat down beside her. “I’ve been thinking about what you told me that she said to you. She really was going to kill you, wasn’t she?”

“Yes.” He’d been grazed on the cheek when he’d shifted, and if not for the fact that his cat had taken her hand off when he did, she might well have done him in.

“She told the police what she’d done. Even mentioned my cat being there.

But since I was taking care that she didn’t die while they were there, I wasn’t arrested.

I might be brought in later for questioning, but for now, they’re not doing anything.

She confessed to trying to kill me because she didn’t want me around her anymore.

Robin even asked if she could have special treatment because she was depressed all the time. ”

“I heard her telling them that when she was brought in here. Did she actually tell you that she thought that she should get away with murdering you because she was depressed?” He told her that she had.

“I don’t believe it. I mean, I do, but I don’t want to.

I can’t even think why she thought that she should. There’s something wrong with her.”

“I believe that they’ll figure that out soon enough.

The very fact that she was so calm about telling them that she tried to kill me freaked out the officers there.

” He laughed a little. “I’m a nice guy, and they couldn’t figure out why someone would want to kill me.

She said that she was going to bring you home with her and that the two of you would live together.

I don’t see that as happening anytime soon.

Not to mention how dangerous it would be for you.

Now that she’s gotten it in her head that she can take care of her triggers by killing them off, she mentioned that she was going to kill her attorney as well. ”

Holding her hand, she asked him twice more if Robin had really tried to kill him.

He knew what she was feeling; he had a hard time with it himself.

To have a gun pointed at him had been terrifying, but to hear it go off when it did—he thought that he’d remember that for a long time.

Standing up when the doctor came down the hall, he held onto Blake while he walked toward them.

“She’s going to be just fine, however, we couldn’t reattach the hand.

There was too much damage done to it in order for it to work properly.

” He had told them that before he’d gone into surgery, knowing full well that a tiger had removed it, that he didn’t think that things were going to work for her hand.

“I’m going to have her in recovery for a few more hours, then send her to her room.

It’ll be better for her there so that she can rest. I’ve also spoken to the police on my way here, they’re going to set up someone in her room to be with her, too. ”

“She’s on medications to deal with her depression.” The doctor laughed and said they were just placebos. “I’m sorry. I don’t understand. She does suffer from depression. She tells everyone that.”

“She mentioned it as we were putting her under. That I was triggering her depression by not taking off my mask so that I could speak to her. She wanted to make sure that it wasn’t the Dresden man.” He looked at him and smiled. “I’m assuming she meant you.”

“I guess so.” They all three laughed, and it was funny.

What Robin didn’t know was that her surgeon was a tiger as well.

The two of them had gone to college together.

“If not for my brother being there with me, I’m not sure what would have happened with her.

She certainly doesn’t like me all that much. ”

“Join the club.” They talked about her medications and how she would be sent to a home for the criminally insane.

“It’ll be the safest place for her until her trial comes up.

Her being out on the streets without proper protection, and she does need it for herself as much as the public needs it from her, would be wrong for everyone.

I’ve spoken to her doctor, and that’s where she’ll be sent to recover for the rest of her stay.

I promise you we’ll take good care of her. ”

“What will happen to her at the trial? I mean, can you guess?” He said that he didn’t know other than the fact that she’s been diagnosed wrong all this time, and her other doctor believes that her previous doctor knew that.

“So she’s been told she suffers from depression and is going to be treated for something else now? ”

“Yes. I don’t know what it would be. He’s been working on other diagnoses, but he said that she may well be depressed; however, that’s not all her problems. He’ll talk to you more when he talks with her.

I’m sure that you’ll be happy to know that she’s going to be treated for what’s actually wrong with her.

” Blake said that would be nice. “I thought that you’d say that.

As I said, she’s going to be in recovery for the next few hours, then I’ll send her out to be cared for in another place. It’ll be safer for her.”

They sat in the lobby for over twenty minutes.

Blake didn’t want to leave just yet, and he held her until she was ready.

He didn’t know if she wanted to see her sister or not; she’d claimed that she didn’t want to see her, but he was going to be there for her until the end.

When she looked up at him, he smiled at her.

“I love you.” He told her that he loved her as well. “If you want to leave me, I’ll understand. My sister tried to kill you, and that’s nothing you signed on for when you and I got married.”
