Chapter 30
After the dangerous rescue of my uncle, we were back in the safety of the Yavuz mansion.
The tension from the operation still lingered in my mind, but we had been successful and, despite the inevitable casualties that always came with direct confrontations like this, all the survivors were safe.
I sat in my office, still trying to process the fact that my men, Eda, and I had escaped that hell.
I couldn’t stop thinking about everything she had done to help us, and I felt guilty for not believing in her good intentions when she offered to lead us to Uncle Zeki.
How did she know how to handle a weapon?
Why had she never tried to escape from the mansion?
I needed to understand. So I called Eda in to talk.
We talked about many things, and once I felt more at ease, I decided it was time to address what had been puzzling me.
“Eda, I need to know more about what happened during the rescue operation, and I need to understand something,” I began carefully.
“How do you know how to handle a weapon with such skill and familiarity? And why did you never try to escape from captivity or from my house, even after being rejected by some of my family members—even after I told you I would send you away as soon as Can no longer needed you?” I asked. So many questions needed answers.
“I learned to handle a weapon during my childhood, Ayaz. My baba taught me. He was very skilled at it.” She looked at me, surprised by my questions. “According to him, as his only daughter, I needed to learn to defend myself,” she said, her expression thoughtful.
I nodded, understanding the connection between her skills and her family, but the second part of my question remained unanswered, so I pressed on.
“And what about escaping?”
“I never tried to escape from captivity because, alone and pregnant, I wouldn’t have succeeded. There were too many of them, and I was at a disadvantage. Escaping wasn’t a viable option. I didn’t have anyone I could trust, and I didn’t want to put my son at risk,” she said sincerely.
That answer was expected, but it wasn’t the only thing I wanted to hear. Part of me longed for a confirmation I hadn’t yet received.
“And about never trying to escape from my house…” I pressed, my voice soft.
Eda turned to face me, her expression firm.
“As for the mansion, I never wanted to escape from here, because this house is where I want to be—where I’ve always wanted to be, Ayaz,” she said sincerely.
I was dumbfounded by her answer, but she didn’t look away.
“But… why?” I asked, surprised, not quite understanding. “Because of our son?”
“Not only because of him, Ayaz.” She looked at me with determination. “Because of his father too.”
I was stunned by her answer. Eda turned and left, leaving me alone with my thoughts and a flood of emotions.
I had underestimated her feelings, and her answer left me reeling.
I never imagined she could still feel something for me, but now, with our son and her presence here, I had to admit that perhaps I felt something for her too.
As I turned her words over in my mind, the true depth of her feelings and the connection between us became clearer than ever.
