Idon’t bother putting on my boxers until I’ve found a shady spot to the side of the jet to take a piss. Once they’re on, I go back to the spot near the tents where Riley and Xane are standing doing a lot of muttering with frowny faces on.
As far as oversteps go, I leapt over a chasm last night.
My lead Alpha has every right to be pissed off about it.
And I have every right not to care.
He knows she’s meant to be ours.
It’s not my fault he ignored that instinct and then made everything worse when he upset her badly enough to make her take too many suppressants to make her perfume go away.
It didn’t come back last night.
I had hoped it would, once we relaxed her, but I knew it might not, so I didn’t breathe a word about it. She shouldn’t have to feel bad for losing that ability.
That’s on Xane’s rigid shoulders.
“We’re up,” I tell them. “Give us ten to get ready to go.”
I know they’re looking at my mark.
Xane’s frown deepens.
“Wait,” he says, tone veering close to his command voice.
I wait, near the steps, ready to head back inside.
“You’ve claimed her,” he states flatly.
“She’s our true mate. I already knew that. We just made it official.”
He’s pissed, for sure, but he’s trying not to let it show.
“Even if that’s true, there’s an order to these things when a pack is involved.”
“Yeah, well, we decided the order didn’t matter when you made her overdose on suppressants.”
He blinks. “Overdose? What are you talking about?”
“Whatever you said to her made her take the full dose for a day, which isn’t recommended because it can stop her perfume from ever coming back.
It didn’t come back last night at all, in case you were wondering.
If she never perfumes again, it’s because you were a dick to her.
So, I’m sorry if we stepped on your toes, but it was justified, if you ask me. ”
He looks pale, but apparently, he doesn’t have anything else to say.
I leave him outside the jet, returning inside to join Trick in the cabin.
“Did I hear you put Xane on blast?” he asks.
“You would have done the same. It’s his fault if Scarlett doesn’t get her perfume back. She’s our mate now. It’s up to us to keep her safe.”
He knows I’m not wrong, but it’s obvious he’s conflicted.
Xane may be our pack leader.
That doesn’t make him infallible.
Someone needs to hold him accountable for his mistakes.
And as far as mistakes go, this has got to worst one he’s ever made.
