Chapter Ninety-Four

Xane

Scarlett took too many suppressants, and now she might not get her perfume back.

I’m stunned into silence when Kian goes off on his rant.

She was upset when we argued, I could see that.

Why would she do something so risky?

It doesn’t make any sense.

I move away from the jet, trying to pull myself together.

Riley puts his hand on my arm and I stop walking.

“What was all that about?” he asks.

Fuck. I can’t put this on him.

He’s got enough on his mind.

“They’ve claimed her.”

“No shit. That was fast work. Guess we’re gonna have to get used to having her around then, huh?”

“Seems like it.”

I should have seen that coming. Kian did all of this for a reason, after all.

I didn’t think he would be so reckless, but I’m not entirely blameless.

“Well, I’m gonna go lay down on the beach until it’s time for breakfast. Gimme a yell when it’s time.” Riley puts on his shades and heads to the beach.

I stand there in the forest in front of the jet, until I realize there’s at least one thing I could be doing. The tents are not gonna be staying out here. We need to take them with us.

Sighing, I pick out one of the sleeping bags and start rolling it up, knowing it’ll take me a while to get it smooshed down enough to fit into its carrier.

Once I’ve got the sleeping bags rolled up and stashed away, I tackle the tent pegs.

It’s a pain in the ass without the hammer, but I don’t want to set foot inside the jet again.

I’m not here to argue with Trick and Kian.

I’ve got a job to do right now, and that’s to get us to safety as pack leader and the pilot who stranded us on the wrong side of our vacation island.

From now on, that’s what I need to focus on.

Nothing else matters until we’re at the resort.

Whatever’s gonna happen, it can wait until then.
