Chapter 28 #3
“How on earth—” Denny’s retort was cut off by Eris’ tongue flat against her. A quiet hum followed. Denny wasn’t sure, but she thought she heard something like ‘You taste so good’ before the sweet torture reprised.
Then Eris did something—pinched the top of her mound to spark a wave of overwhelming pleasure from her clit while she sucked on it like her life depended on it, and something—something inside Denny crumbled apart.
“What the f—”
A shock of white hot pleasure cut the breath in her lungs.
She couldn’t see, couldn’t hear.
Her heart was beating too fast to feel it. Or maybe it wasn’t beating at all.
Her trembling limbs felt like electrified liquid.
From between her legs, the pleasure pulsed on and on in unrelenting bright waves.
Denny had never experienced anything similar before.
This was an orgasm?
She could feel herself drip as Eris dotingly stroked her through it, the intensity of her touch waning as Denny slowly floated back to earth, dizzy and breathless and awestruck.
When her eyes fluttered open, she found Eris still crouched between her legs, lapping her clean in a gesture that was a surreal combination of fondness and eroticism.
“Hey,” she croaked, barely conscious, shuddering at the sensation.
Dark eyelashes lifted. A soft look travelled up her torso.
“There she is.” Eris crawled up to lie beside her. A warm hand rubbed on Denny’s abs. “Feeling good?”
Denny wanted to answer, wanted to say so many things, but she couldn’t remember how to vocalise the hazy thoughts in her head.
Every inch of her, inside and outside, felt raw and shaky.
She had no idea that her body could do that.
Eris laughed. She removed a few strands of hair from Denny’s sweaty face, her expression so enamoured it was almost too much to take.
“Guess you weren’t faking it.”
Denny blushed. She took Eris’ hand and glided it up to the frantic rise and fall of her chest. Words were still failing her.
The room was too luminous, or maybe it was just a side effect of the afterglow. She squinted. Her sight was still a big foggy, but she did her best to return the loving gaze Eris was bearing down on her.
She caught a funny contraction forming between Eris’ brows.
“Where the fuck is the blue coming from?”
“Uh?”
“Your eyes.” Eris combed Denny’s bangs back to look more closely. “There’s a ring of fucking blue. How am I only seeing it now?”
“Must be the light.”
“Your eyes are three colours? How is that even genetically possible?”
It wasn’t the best moment to demand such complex explanations from Denny’s brain. It took her a while to muster all the bits of information for an accurate answer.
“They’re not always the same colour, either,” insisted Eris.
“Green eyes technically don’t exist,” said Denny. “It’s an optical illusion. They’re actually blue eyes with an additional yellowish pigment called lipochrome that interacts with the scattering of the light. It’s the same pigment that makes sunflowers and marigolds yellow.”
“The one that hydrangeas can’t produce.”
Denny’s heart gave a little squeeze. “You remember.”
“Of course I remember.”
Of course, she said. Like it was granted. Like it happened every day that people remembered random bits of Denny’s botanic prattle.
“The brown halo around my pupils is due to a high lipochrome concentration. Where the concentration is lower, the colour fades to green, and then blue at the outer edge of the irises, where the pigment is virtually inexistent.”
Eris grinned above her.
“You’re so hot when you speak Science.”
Denny had no idea how she was supposed not to fold completely at that―the most incredible person she knew fawning over her nerdy rambling. She was only human, after all.
Her heart rate, which had just regained a more reasonable rhythm, picked up again. She kept Eris’ palm on top of it while pulling her down for a kiss that left a salty taste in her mouth.
She fell back into the cushions with Eris’ knuckles running down her wet cheek.
“What are these for?”
Denny smiled under the cautious caresses that wiped her tears one by one. “You exist. And you chose me.”
“Says the girl who literally scraped me off the pavement and said: ‘You’re my problem now’.”
It was a memory that felt like an impression from a movie, or an alternate reality.
Three months.
More like three lifetimes.
There had really been a time when Denny and Eris had been strangers?
It didn’t seem possible that two souls that belonged so deeply to each other had ever been apart, unaware of the other’s existence.
It’d been a close one. They could’ve easily missed that narrow window of time when their paths had overlapped that summer night.
Who would’ve thought that the bleeding girl that Denny had impulsively taken home would turn out to be everything she didn’t know she needed?
That they would change each other’s lives for the better just by being there for one another?
Denny wrapped her hands around Eris’ neck. “Turns out you were actually the solution.”
Eris’ cheeks pinkened. She huffed out a gruff groan, then lay down to rest her head on top of Denny’s breast. Folding her arms around her, Denny pressed a kiss to her temple and closed her eyes.
Mine.
Lunch could wait.
Mine to care for.
Life could wait.
