T hanks to Ma, I was gearing up to do some bullshit for Kenneth’s ass. Since he was the mayor of Montgomery, he didn’t like getting his hands dirty. He collected favors all over the city like Pokémon.

“Let’s get this shit over with,” I told Dough when I entered the warehouse. He was standing in there loading some assault rifles.

“You sure you want to do this shit?”

“I’on have much of a choice.”

Grabbing one of the rifles, I marched toward the back exit with him right on my heels. He hit the fob on the van, and I hopped into the passenger seat. My head leaned against the headrest. For whatever reason, thoughts of Halo seeped into my mind. It was crazy in this short time we were about to have a baby. When she first told me, I thought she was bullshitting, but to hold that positive test in my hand made shit real.

“You good?” Dough questioned me, drifting me from my thoughts.

“Can you believe that I’m about to be a father?”

“For real?” He briefly stared at me and turned his attention back to the road.

“Yeah. Just found out. I’m still trying to wrap my mind ’round the shit.”

“Congratulations. You finally ’bout to make a nigga an uncle.”

“Looks like it.”

Dough pulled into the back parking lot. Leaning down, I grabbed my mask out the glove compartment and put it on and then tossed Dough his. He did the same. My eyes searched the parking lot to make sure that no one was out there before getting out.

Getting out the van, I approached the back door.

Boom! Boom!

I banged twice on it and a couple seconds later, it pushed open. I locked eyes with the guard at the door and he stepped back. Dough and I entered the building. Music blared from the main part.

Here I was handling Kenneth’s bidding and still didn’t know who the fuck was coming for me. That’s what I should’ve been focusing on, not this shit.

A guy stepped out into the hallway in my way. My hand lifted and I sent a bullet straight into his chest. His body crashed into the wall. I kept trotting. More men appeared, probably hearing the gunfire. Dough and I dropped all three of ’em before they were even able to send a bullet our way.

I stepped over their lifeless bodies and headed toward the music. Dough strolled behind me, searching every single room as we went so that we wouldn’t get any surprises on the way back out the door. We finally made it to the party. A chick noticed us from across the room and screamed. It didn’t take long for everyone to begin scattering.

My eyes landed on my target. She took one look at me and ran in the opposite direction. “This bitch,” I said, mumbling, and ran behind her.

“Please, please!” she screamed as she neared the exit.

I caught her by the hair and yanked her back. “Don’t make me do something I don’t want to do,” I warned her.

Grabbing her, I tossed her over my shoulder. “Aye!” I heard Dough’s voice. When I turned around, blood and brain matter splattered my face. The body dropped to the floor in front of me. Shawty kicked and screamed as I carried her toward the back exit.

When I got outside, I tossed her into the back of the van and Dough grabbed a piece of rope and tied her wrists together. He then took a piece of tape and placed it over her mouth. Muffled noises came from her as he shut the door. Whoever shawty was, she was pretty. I’on know what type of beef she had with Kenneth and I really don’t give a damn. All he asked me to do was snatch her ass up, and I did that.

I pulled out my phone and hit his line as we pulled out the parking lot.

“I got yo’ package, now where you want it?” I questioned him.

“Just hold on to it ’til you get further instructions,” he replied and disconnected the call. I know this nigga was lying. What the fuck was I supposed to do with her?

“What he say?” Dough asked me.

“He said to wait ’til he calls back,” I replied and removed the mask from my face.

“What the fuck?” Dough temporarily looked at me. “So where are we heading?”

“I guess back to the warehouse. She’ll just have to stay there ’til he calls.”

“This shit is crazy,” he responded and kept driving.

Once we made it back to the warehouse, Dough grabbed shawty from the back of the van and carried her inside. He placed her in a room and shut the door.

“I’ll wait it out in case he calls back. You can gone to the house,” Dough said, getting comfortable in one of the chairs.

“A’ight.” I treaded toward the exit.

I told Halo I was coming back, but after this, I needed to go home and take a shower before I went back over there.

Hitting the fob on my truck, I hopped inside and pulled out the parking lot. By the time I made it to the house, it was dark. All I wanted to do was take a shower and find my way back to Halo.

Hopping from the truck, I sauntered into the building and got on the elevator. It dinged on my floor and I stepped out. I tugged my shirt over my head and stopped in the kitchen to grab me a bottle of water. Soon as I popped it open, I heard a sniffle come from behind me. I turned, and Halo stood there with tear-filled eyes.

“What’s wrong with you? What are you doing here?”

She took a step closer to me and her head slightly tilted. “Is that blood on you? So it’s true?”
