Chapter 5 Ankle On The Stones

The garden was quiet, the opposite of the atmosphere in the banquet hall.

I sighed.

I couldn't help wondering what Fu Siyan's White Moonlight looked like.

Was he unwilling to get close to me because he was keeping himself pure for that woman?

The thought made my chest feel tight for no good reason.

I was only greedy for Fu Siyan's body anyway.

But once I thought of another woman sitting in my Husband's heart, who would have been happy?

I was too focused. I didn't watch my feet.

Pain shot through my ankle, and I knew I was in trouble.

A pair of steady, strong hands caught me and pulled me into a full hold.

Above my head came a man's voice, faintly displeased.

"Why did you run out here?"

"I wanted to air out the wine."

I spoke evenly.

That little knot in my chest made me push Fu Siyan away on instinct and take a quiet step back.

"Didn't I tell you the garden is all cobblestones? It's easy to twist an ankle."

"You're so mean."

I sniffed.

I couldn't stop thinking Fu Siyan would never treat that White Moonlight of his like this.

He sighed and carried me aside to sit.

He crouched in front of me, gently took off my high heels, and checked my ankle.

I struggled, unwilling.

"Don't move."

Fu Siyan's big hand closed around my whole ankle, bossy and sure.

The faint itch of it made my throat tighten.

"Fu Siyan, did you used to take off Lin Ximo's high heels like this too?"

The air seemed to go still for a second.

Fu Siyan looked up, startled.

"How do you know about Lin Ximo..."

"Enough. You don't have to say it."

I cut Fu Siyan off fast, as if I were afraid of hearing something I didn't want from his mouth.

I regretted it a little too. Why had I gone and made myself miserable?

"I was just asking. It's nothing."

I forced out an ugly smile.

On the way back, Fu Siyan and I didn't speak.

But I could feel his gaze staying on me.

"Sleep early. Good night."

We got home.

I lowered my head, pulled my door open, and didn't let a single look land on Fu Siyan.

The next second, he caught my wrist.

"Don't overthink it. I won't be that close with her."

Fu Siyan's low, rough voice made my heart stutter.

The sour patch in my chest faded a little in that moment.

With Fu Siyan's standing, he never bothered to lie.

Maybe I really had been petty.
