33. Magic In The Moonlight
Chapter thirty-three
Magic In The Moonlight
Paul
Hearing Maggie call my name while she dropped down onto me was all I needed to lose my fucking mind.
I don’t know how we went from arguing to having sex in my truck in the middle of a parking lot, but here we were.
Sure, it was dark. Sure, we faced away from the restaurant and out to the river.
But the truck was rocking. If someone was anywhere near it, there could be no doubt about what we were doing.
Maggie wasn’t quiet, which I fucking loved about her.
Hearing her voice recklessly shouting about how good I made her feel was everything.
But that didn’t make the tap, tap, tap of the end of a flashlight sound any less like gunshots in the dark.
Maggie gasped, pausing on top of me when the flashlight shone in at us. Fortunately, the officer lowered it enough that it didn’t blind us for long.
I rolled the window down enough to chat. “Yes, sir? Is there a problem?”
The old, pudgy officer looked between us with a furrowed brow. “How old are you, son?”
“Twenty-six, sir.”
He huffed. “At least you aren’t teenagers, but would you kindly take it elsewhere? This is a public, family place.”
“Of course, sir. Have a good night.”
He tipped his hat to me and left.
When I rolled the window back up, Maggie dissolved into a fit of giggles.
“I know a place,” I started. “I can lay you out and make you feel good.”
With bright eyes, she pulled up the front of her dress and tied it quickly.
Her hand lifted to my jaw, her eyes tender and sweet. “Let’s go.”
Pulling her off me, I tucked back in while she buckled up.
Then it hit me. “Wait, I didn’t use a condom,” I said, turning toward her with wide eyes.
“It’s okay. I have an IUD,” she said, buckling in and then resting her hand on my thigh.
As the panic receded, we headed for a beautiful open lot.
There was an acreage just outside of town too big to just put a house on and too small to farm.
It was such an oddity in this area that no one bought it.
Just sat there vacant, waiting for the right person to find it.
Pulling off the gravel road that led to it, since we hadn’t had rain in weeks, I parked in the middle of the lot.
Maggie’s eyes widened and she pushed out into the night. The air, while still humid, was cooler now. You felt sticky the moment you stepped out of the air conditioning, but at least you could breathe in it.
Spinning around in the headlights, she looked free and unencumbered. I left the truck running and turned up the radio, then went to join her.
With a secret smile, she kept spinning. “What is this place?”
I got caught in the sight of her for a minute and had the wind knocked out of me. She was so damn gorgeous.
After clearing my throat, I managed to find my tongue again. “Plot of land for sale. No one’s ever out here. It’s just you and me and some dirt.”
She shook her head as she stopped spinning. “No, there’s magic out here, Paul. Something about this place is special.”
A herd of deer took that opportunity to run into a nearby forested area. “More trees than usual, probably more wildlife.”
She stared up at the full moon and stars. “Gateway to the heavens, I’d say.”
I wasn’t sure what she meant, but she liked it and that was all that mattered. Coming up behind her, I pulled her back to my front and swayed with her to the song on the radio. Turning in my arms, she tucked into my chest, holding me so close that we could barely move to the music.
Maggie turned her head and sighed. “This place is so close to the city, yet out in the country. It’s beautiful here.”
I hummed my agreement into her hair where I pressed a kiss.
While I was about to wish the moment would never end, Maggie pulled back and tugged me to the truck.
She grabbed a blanket out of the cab and pushed it into my chest. Understanding her meaning, I spread it out in the bed of the truck.
Maggie hopped up behind me, pulling off her shoes, so I did, too.
Then, a new song came on the radio. With a whoop, she hoisted me back to my feet. “I love this song! We have to dance to it.”
I knew that voice. It was Wyatt Jones, the man I’d hung out with in Chicago. With only the critters in the surrounding forest as witnesses, we danced in the moonlight.
As the song came to an end, I pressed a kiss to her lips. I kept it chaste in case she only wanted to look up at the stars tonight. If she did, I understood. I never wanted to pressure her.
When she lowered down to her knees, pulling me with her, I understood that she wanted to curl up against me.
I got situated, then relished the way she felt when she sank into my side.
She felt so good there, like that was the only place she should ever be.
With the radio still playing, the moonlight as our only light, and a cool breeze keeping the humidity at bay, we gazed up at the stars and held each other.
Occasionally, I pressed a kiss to her hair. It was a compulsion, to have my lips on her. I needed to feel the softness of her skin there and under my fingertips.
“Remember that night at the pond not long before I left?” she asked softly, reaching up to stroke my face.
Humming my response, I kissed her hair again. Of course I remembered.
“That was one of the best nights of my life.”
I held my breath, hoping she’d say more. Eventually, I asked, “How come?”
“Because I was in your arms and you didn’t let go,” she replied, running her thumb along the dimple in my chin.
Leaning down, I pressed a kiss to her lips, conveying everything I was feeling. How much I wanted to hold onto her now and never let go again.
Maggie leaned up, reaching around my neck. My hands drifted to her back, finding a string that I tugged. When it released the tie, the two lace-covered straps of her dress fell, making the top of her dress collapse. She leaned back, tugging it off entirely to reveal her beautiful body to me.
Seeing her in the moonlight was a sight that took my breath away.
This woman meant everything to me, so much that I couldn’t even speak.
Tonight, she seemed to understand as she grasped my face, pulling me closer to bring me out of my stupor.
When she kissed me, it wasn’t urgent. There was nothing that would hurry us.
With deliberate care for each other, we came together that night with so much passion that I poured every last drop of my seed into her.
And, dammit, if that didn’t somehow make watching her walk into her hotel room and away from me even worse.
