Chapter 9 I Want to Protect You
Near the girls' dorm, I looked at Qin Chi in silence.
"Why did you help me? Didn't you dislike me?"
He frowned in that arrogant way of his. "When did I ever say I disliked you?"
I stared at him. "When we were kids, you wouldn't let me come to your house."
He thought for a moment and actually laughed.
"And I also refused to walk with you, right?"
I pressed my lips together and kept watching him, trying to understand what he meant.
He sighed and looked up at the night sky.
"You're really good at holding grudges. I shouldn't have helped you. So you still hate me."
I shook my head.
"I don't hate you. I just thought you disliked me."
His dislike had made me afraid to get close.
He reached out and rubbed my head. He was at least 1.8 meters tall.
"I was young and cared too much about face back then. It's different now. Let's call it even this time, okay?"
"So now... you don't feel that way anymore?"
He pulled his gaze back from the distance and looked at my face.
"Actually, many times when I saw you sitting quietly in the corner, treating yourself like you were invisible, it gave me a very strong feeling. I really wanted to protect you."
I froze.
He paused for a moment.
"But every time you noticed me, you would either turn your head away or walk faster, like I was a wolf."
I stayed silent.
His voice softened.
"From now on, don't be afraid anymore. With me here, no one will dare bully you."
"Are you telling the truth?"
He nodded.
I took a deep breath. I suddenly found it hard to look at him.
"There's something I didn't tell you."
"What?"
"The vice principal of the school is Liu Tian's uncle."
Qin Chi was stunned for a second, but he didn't show the panic I had feared.
He only looked confused.
"So you've been this scared of them because she has a vice principal uncle?"
"I'm scared that you'll get in trouble."
He laughed. "I barely did anything to her. Why are you worrying so much? Besides, you're the victim. If anyone should be blamed, it's not me. Your brain works in such a strange way."
I opened my eyes wide. "Really? No trouble?"
He just smiled. "Of course there won't be."
He made the things that terrified me look easy.
Qin Chi added, "Today was only a warning to stop her from bullying you. I'll settle the rest of what she did to you later."
"Qin Chi, don't fight."
"I'm not that stupid."
