Midnight conversations

Author's pov-

Divya hesitated, staring at the message on her screen.

Her fingers hovered over the keyboard as if typing a response would somehow make this moment less surreal.

The reply came almost instantly.

She let out a deep breath.

A part of her wanted to ignore the message, to pretend she hadn't seen it. But an even bigger part-the one that had been restless since their last conversation-needed to know why he was here.

Grabbing a hoodie, she quietly slipped out of her house and made her way down the stairs. The night air was crisp, carrying the faint scent of rain-just how she liked it.

And there he was.

Purv stood near his car, leaning against it, his hands tucked into the pockets of his jacket. The dim streetlights cast shadows across his sharp features, making him look even more unreadable than usual.

She stopped a few steps away. "What are you doing here?"

He tilted his head slightly, studying her like he was trying to solve a puzzle. "Couldn't sleep."

Divya folded her arms. "So you decided to come to my house in the middle of the night?"

Purv smirked. "Do you want me to leave?"

She opened her mouth, then closed it. She should say yes. She should turn around and go back inside. But instead, she sighed and leaned against the railing.

"What's on your mind?" She asked, surprising herself.

He was quiet for a moment before speaking. "You said you liked rain."

She blinked, caught off guard by the sudden change in topic. "Yeah.. I did."

Purv looked up at the sky. "It's going to rain soon."

She followed his gaze, and sure enough, the clouds were rolling in, dark and heavy.

"Is that why you called me out here?" She teased. "To tell me the weather forecast?"

He huffed out a quiet laugh. "No."

"Then why?"

He turned to look at her, his expression unreadable. "I don't know."

Divya frowned. "What do you mean you don't know?"

Purv sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I just... Ended up here."

There was something about the way he said it that made her chest tighten. Like he didn't understand it himself.

Like he was just as lost in this as she was.

The wind picked up, and a few drops of rain began to fall.

Purv glanced at her. "Want to go for a drive?"

She should say no.

She really, really should.

But instead, she found herself nodding.

"Yeah. Let's go."

And with that, she got into the car, knowing that whatever it was, it was far from over.
