A drive under the rain

Author's pov-

The low hum of the car engine filled the silence as purv drove through the empty streets of Delhi. The city, usually loud and chaotic, felt almost peaceful at this hour. The drizzle had turned into a steady downpour, and the sound of raindrops against the windshield was oddly comforting.

Divya sat quietly, watching the blurred city lights pass by. She had no idea where they were going, but strangely, she didn't care.

Purv, on the other hand, looked relaxed-one hand on the steering wheel, the other resting on the gear shift. His sharp features were illuminated by the soft glow of the dashboard lights.

After a while, she broke the silence. "You always go on random drives in the middle of the night?"

Purv smirked slightly. "Only when I can't sleep."

"And you couldn't sleep tonight because...?" She asked, her curiosity getting the best of her.

He was silent for a moment before answering. "Too many thoughts."

Divya turned her head to look at him. "About?"

He exhaled through his nose, gripping the steering wheel a little tighter. "Things that don't concern you."

She rolled her eyes. "You called me out in the middle of the night, made me sit in your car, and now you're saying it doesn't concern me?"

A small chuckle escaped him. "Fair point."

She waited, giving him space to speak if he wanted to.

Finally, he said, "sometimes, I just need a break from everything."

Divya understood that more than she thought she would.

They drove in silence for a few more minutes before purv suddenly pulled over near an empty street, lined with trees that swayed under the rain.

"What are we doing?" She asked.

He turned off the engine and leaned back in his seat. "Just sit. Listen to the rain."

Divya glanced at him, then leaned her head against the window, closing her eyes. The rhythmic sound of the rain filled the car, drowning out everything else.

For the first time in a long time, she felt... at ease.

"You said you liked rain," he murmured.

She opened her eyes to find him looking at her.

"I do," she admitted. "It feels... Honest."

Purv raised an eyebrow. "Honest?"

She nodded. "It doesn't pretend to be something it's not. It falls when it wants to, stops when it wants to. There's no fakeness in it."

Purv didn't say anything, but she could tell he was thinking.

After a moment, he leaned forward, reaching towards the radio. Soft music filled the car-slow, calming, blending perfectly with the sound of the rain.

Divya smiled a little. "Didn't know you listened to this kind of music."

He smirked. "There's alot you don't know about me."

She looked at him, studying his face. "Then tell me."

Something flickered in his eyes, but before he could respond, his phone buzzed.

His jaw tightened as he looked at the screen. Without answering, he turned it over, placing it face down on the dashboard.

Divya noticed the change in his expression. "Who was it?"

"No one important," he muttered.

She knew that wasn't true.

But she didn't push.

Instead, she looked back out the window, watching as the rain continued to fall.

And for a while, neither of them spoke.

But somehow, in the silence, more was said than words ever could.
