Chapter 15 - The True Mate Revealed
The afternoon sun hung low, painting the training grounds in soft gold, but there was no warmth in the breeze for me.
I had been practicing alone, just trying to steady my movements after the morning drills, when the first ripple of danger reached me.
A wild rogue wolf, larger and more unpredictable than anything I had trained against, came charging out of the forest.
I froze for a moment, caught off guard, heart hammering.
My instincts screamed, but my body hesitated.
Something inside me stirred—an unfamiliar surge of awareness, sharp and primal.
Before I could even react, Manik appeared in his wolf form, moving with terrifying speed and precision, cutting in front of me, and I felt it immediately, like a pulse through the air.
Then it hit me—the pull, sudden and undeniable. The mate bond, faint and teasing before, now roared with clarity. My senses flared, and instinctively, I inhaled, catching a scent that left me dizzy.
His wolf... Shadow
"Nandini!" he bellowed, and in that single word, my chest shook. There was no mistaking it. The air seemed to pulse with him, his presence filling every corner of my awareness. My body responded before my mind could, leaning instinctively into him as I felt his protective urgency wrap around me.
Then it happened. The scent of my wolf—fully formed, unmistakable—rose in my senses. It was sharp, fiery, earthy, yet grounding, swirling around my perception of him. A presence I had never consciously recognised before whispered to me from within, familiar and commanding.
Agnis
My eyes widened involuntarily, and I felt them shift—the familiar brown transforming into a faint silver-blue glow.
Heat flushed through me as I realized the truth: I was no longer just Nandini Murthy, the rejected wolfless girl.
I was something else, something ancient and powerful, and the world could sense it now.
The rogue wolf froze at the sudden surge of energy. Shadow growled low and threatening, and before the rogue could react, Shadow lunged, pinning it decisively before killing, his red eyes blazing with authority and instinct.
Then he did something I didn't expect. He shifted and turned toward me, but with red eyes, eyes scanning mine with a depth that made my knees weak. His voice was low, and yet it carried across the training grounds, clear and firm:
"Mate."
The word resonated in the air, reverberating through every fiber of my being. Gasps rippled through the pack members scattered nearby.
Cabir froze mid-step, Alya dropped her training stick, Mukti's hand flew to her mouth in shock. Even Raj and Neyonika looked stunned, a mixture of awe and disbelief in their expressions.
I could barely breathe. The scent, the energy, the undeniable presence—it all coalesced into something overwhelming.
I realised in that instant that Manik had not only claimed me in recognition, but had smelled, recognised, and accepted the wolf within me.
Shadow surged closer to me, sensing my awakening, and Agnis—my own hidden wolf—brushed tentatively at the edge of consciousness, meeting him.
The first sensation of Agnis was intoxicating, raw and beautiful, like a river of heat running beneath my skin. I shivered as Shadow's amber scent, strong and protective, pressed against me, mingling with Agnis' own fiery presence. My heartbeat synced to his, and I felt the pull stronger than ever.
Before I could even process what was happening, he was in front of me, moving closer with a predator's grace that left me breathless. His hands cradled my face gently, thumbs brushing along my jaw, holding me still as though the world itself had narrowed to just him and me.
"You're mine," he whispered, voice low, resonant, shaking with emotion I could feel in my chest as strongly as my own. "You've always been mine."
Without thinking, without hesitation, my lips met his.
The kiss was sudden, urgent, yet careful, full of the restraint of two souls testing the boundaries of a bond that was stronger than anything we could have imagined.
My hands gripped his arms instinctively, and Agnis purred beneath my skin, curious and intense, brushing at his presence.
The moment stretched, intimate and raw. Every nerve in my body ignited as I felt him—the man, the Alpha, and the wolf within him—melding with my own awakening. He tasted of the forest, of the sun, of danger and fire, and it made me tremble with desire and trust simultaneously.
When we finally pulled back slightly, gasping, our foreheads pressed together, I could feel the wolf inside me responding to him fully now, reaching to Shadow in a cautious greeting that made me aware for the first time of their coexistence.
Shadow growled softly, almost approvingly, while Agnis murmured faintly beneath my consciousness, fierce and independent, yet drawn to him.
"You... your wolf," Manik breathed, staring at me in shock, amber-golden eyes flickering with a depth I had never seen before. "It's real. I can feel it. All of it."
I could only nod, trembling, as the realization hit me in waves.
He had smelled me, recognised me, accepted me—and in doing so, he had awakened a part of me I had never fully known existed. The bond was no longer subtle. It was undeniable, raw, and utterly consuming.
And in that moment, with the scent of roses and earth, fire and amber blending between us, with Shadow pressing closer and Agnis stirring beneath my skin, I knew something profound had begun—something that would bind us forever, far beyond the rules, far beyond what anyone could have predicted.
