Chapter Twenty Four
Reid
After meeting with the doctor to ensure that everything with the baby girl was healthy, I took Caroline home and swapped out the battery in her car.
I changed the oil too because who knows how long it’s been since that’s been done.
She should really get a more practical car now that she’s pregnant, but I won’t be the one to tell her that today.
All I can do is make sure she feels safe.
I’m just glad that everyone else was at work today. I was able to get all of this done while Caroline ate a mint chip blizzard on my tailgate and I managed to get out of there before her parents got home and had to face me. But now? I am completely and utterly exhausted.
I head back home to hang out with Poppy for a bit and enjoy the first bit of relaxation I’ve had all week. I snap a picture of her laying in a ball on my lap and send it to Caroline, in hopes to make her smile.
ME: “Some Poppy spam to brighten your day”
It takes a few minutes for her to respond.
CAROLINE: “Aww I’m so glad you kept her. Jealous of those cuddles.”
Jealous of me or jealous of the cat…? I’m glad we are finally back on friendly speaking terms and not completely avoiding each other, but I don’t want to push my luck in hoping that she may be flirting with me.
It tugs a bit at my heart strings when I think back to when we would text all day everyday about silly little things and add smiley faces at the end of every sentence.
God, it’s been too long since I’ve been in a relationship.
Before I can think too much into it, the group chat with the guys is going off again. I keep it muted, but realize there’s a bunch of unread messages in there. Clicking out of my conversation with Caroline, I scroll to catch up on what these two are saying.
SQUAD CHAT
CARTER: “Anyone want to join me in a trip to Hard Rock tonight?”
LEVI: “Nah, I gotta work early tomorrow and I’m dead. Just gonna chill here tonight.”
CARTER: “Lame, Reid you up for anything?”
Carter loves to go to the casino and although it’s a little out of the way, it’s not like there’s many other entertainment options around here.
REID: “What time are you trying to go?”
CARTER: “Whenever, 7 or 8pm?”
REID: “Sure, I’m gonna nap and get a few things done then I’ll swing by.”
Guess I’m spending my evening off at the roulette table.
