Chapter Twenty Five
Caroline
I’m sitting on my bedroom floor, staring at the check in my hand.
My purse contents are strewn about the room, as I clean it out to move to a bigger bag.
As much as I wish I had the strength to rip this thing up and move on from the blackmail lingering over my head, I can’t help but feel out of options.
I have the house to myself this weekend and it feels eerily quiet.
Bailey is laying on the bed to keep me company and I have Friends reruns playing in the background while I try to organize my life, but my phone vibrates and snaps me back to reality.
To my surprise, it’s Reid. We’ve gotten more comfortable with chatting again, but I’m not sure what he’d want to text me for at this hour.
REID: “Don’t leave”
CAROLINE: “What are you talking about?”
REID: “Don’t go back to Chicago”
CAROLINE: “Why?”
Didn’t I already tell him that I’m not going anywhere?
REID: “Cause you belong here”
CAROLINE: “Reid, are you drunk?”
REID: “No… are you?”
CAROLINE: “I’m pregnant… where are you?”
REID: “Ugh at the casino with Carter. Ready to go home, but you know how he is”
CAROLINE: “Oh man, do you need a ride?”
REID: “It’s alright - We’ll probably just find an Uber back to town. What’re you up to tonight?”
CAROLINE: “A whole lot of nothing. My parents are at the beach house so it’s just me and Bailey here hanging out.”
REID: “Welp my friend just ditched me for a girl at the bar, so guess it’s just me now too.”
CAROLINE: “*eye roll emoji* Stay there, I’m coming to get you.”
