Chapter Twelve

“Ok, I’ll make sure I tell Emmett to double the guards tonight and I’ll have some of my own men there as well,” Thumper announced. “If they try anything we’ll be ready for them.”

Daisy shook her head. “You need to make sure you make my dad and brothers strip down to their underwear, they all like to carry blades that can’t be seen.

You cannot trust them, not even behind bars.

They might stab someone in jail just to start a commotion.

Cause a riot or something. Then when the guards come, they can attack them and possibly get out. ”

Thumper just stared at her then asked, “They would stab one of their own to get loose?”

Daisy shrugged. “Or one of Satan’s men. They don’t believe that anyone has any value...

Except for them. You’ve heard about entitled people nowadays.

Well, these guys were already that way before it became such a scourge everywhere.

Our grandpa was to blame for that. He was old fashioned and taught my father to treat women as slaves with no voice.

That men are the only ones who matter. That his sons and grandsons were superior. ” She rolled her eyes.

The men in the room all stared at her.

“That’s fucking stupid,” Fox spoke up. “Without women men would be lost.”

The Warriors in the room all snickered as they nodded.

“Like who would have had his sons for him?” Torin asked. “Not a man, that's for sure.”

“Yeah, if a guy could have a baby I’d buy tickets to see that,” Callum quipped.

Again, some snickers.

Looking around, Daisy studied them then she asked, “You guys are for real?”

Torin patted her arm and told her, “You have never met real men before, Daisy.”

“I apologize for thinking men were all the same then.” She shook her head.

“But the main lesson my grandfather and my dad taught my brothers was to protect yourself first and foremost.” She looked over at Thumper to add, “You weren’t here yet but when Digger was unconscious from the grenade exploding in front of him, the others just left him behind.

Then today, Demon was raging that he wanted him back.

But the only reason he wants him back is because Digger is involved in everything they’ve been doing and Demon is afraid to piss him off.

If he realizes Dad and the brothers left him behind, Digger might make a deal with the feds that could ruin what they got going.

They are all selfish and mean and if Demon wants me back it will only be to shut me up for good with a bullet to my head. ”

Thumper hissed in disgust. “Well, that isn’t gonna happen.” He sighed heavily and added, “Let’s see this flash drive you gave to the guys here.”

Pope led him into the clubhouse and he made sure someone was up on the roof watching over them while Fox showed him the files.

Thumper read some of it on the laptop screen and shook his head then looked up at Daisy. “Your family...is insane. They’ve broken too many laws to count and with this evidence we can put them away for the rest of their natural lives.”

Daisy sat down in a chair and nodded. “I’m learning that they aren’t natural like I thought.

But I sure hope they get caught finally.

I’m just tired of it all. I’m tired of being part of that family.

Tired of having the same last name as Demon and my brothers.

” She looked at Thumper and said, “I know you have to verify everything on that tape and I hope you can. They have to be stopped, they need more than a slap on the wrist, they need real consequences.” She hung her head.

“I’m tired of being invisible when it is convenient for them.

Tired of flinching when someone raises his hand, being dragged out of bed in the middle of the night to clean up a mess because my brothers drank too much at the bar that night.

I’ve cleaned up their puke and washed blood out of their clothes so many times since I was five years old.

I'd never been able to go outside for months because someone might see the bruises they gave me every time I talk back.”

Torin placed his arm around her shoulder as he looked upset.

She shrugged. “But it’s not like anyone around us would care about the bruises, everyone saw them.

But they just never called them out on it.

They knew what they would get if they said anything.

” She stood from the chair and stared at Thumper.

“So I hope you can nail these unnatural vermin to the wall by their balls, each and every one of them.” Then she turned and rushed down the hall.

Everyone heard a door open and close softly.

Thumper looked around the room and shook his head.

“Makes me sick when I hear these tales of abuse.

Someone should have rescued that poor girl a long time ago.

Then he looked at Fox and said, “I will need a copy of that flash drive.

Like she said... I have to verify everything but I have no doubt that it's all true.”

Fox gave him a nod and tapped some keys.

“Yeah and you better call Emmett to make sure he knows what’s coming,” Bishop told Thumper. “I have no doubt those Rage brothers are gonna cause trouble tonight, if not them, then Satan himself. That’s just the sort of thing he’d do and you know it.”

Thumper nodded. “My men are already in place. They know Satan’s style all too well.” His phone pinged and when he read the message he looked up at Pope. “My men have been patrolling the town and they have seen more of Satan’s group just watching the streets.”

Pope looked at his brothers and then grabbed his phone and called Emmett.

“You best know that Demon might be busted out of jail tonight, he has more men in town and as long as he’s in your cells his boys might try to get him out.

Daisy told us how he used to brag he’d never be in jail long, but you also gotta know that Satan’s men are here as well.

We never apprehended him, so he’s still out there.

We think they are going to come together and bust the boys out.

We got Marshal Trey Vincent here at the clubhouse and he said some of his men are watching the jail. ”

“Yeah I’ve noticed them and wondered who they were,” Emmett told him. “I’ll move the bikers to the high security wing that is really a basement setting and we’ll be ready for anything tonight.”

“Good, we’re gonna be ready here too,” Pope replied. “I don't think Satan is done with us yet, or Demon either. Digger is still here and so is Daisy.”

When he ended the call, Pope looked over at his brothers, Cardinal and Bishop.

“Emmett is going to move the prisoners to the lower level and bring in more of his men, maybe even the State police. With more of Satan’s men in town, he has to be ready for anything.

Emmett’s security cells are located in the basement.

Underneath the street level so even if Satan or the rest of the Demon’s boys do come around they won’t find them on the street level.

And even if they do come, they’ll never free the men once they’re in security. ”

Bishop snorted. “True enough but you don’t know what Satan will do now that he got hit with that mud and fire.

We humiliated him pretty good today and he wrecked his bike trying to get away from the cops.

He could be busted up and he was always unpredictable even on his good days.

And this is sure as the hell he comes from... is not a good day.”

“Which is why we’re taking these precautions,” Thumper reasoned. “But even while knowing all that we still have to keep watch over this place too. If Satan can’t get Demon free he might come back here and try to get Digger back.”

“And just why would he do something stupid like that?” Cardinal asked him as he crossed his arms over his wide chest.

Fox looked up from his computer screen and said, “It might have something to do with this.” He slowly turned the monitor toward the group of men.

Pope walked over to the screen and his eyes widened as he read what Fox found. He looked up at his brothers then at Torin, “You best go get Daisy and bring her out here.”

Thumper moved to the screen a bit and read what Fox found. Scowling, he growled. “Well, fuck.”

Footsteps could be heard coming down the hall as Daisy and Torin came down it.

Daisy stopped when she saw all the gazes in the room were aimed at her. “What’s going on?”

Pope pointed at the screen and asked, “Would you care to explain this?”

Daisy stepped forward then went to the screen.

After a minute, she gasped and raised her hand to cover her mouth.

She looked up with total heartbreak in her eyes.

Tears rolled down her face as she dropped to her knees and for a moment she couldn’t breathe.

Then she whimpered, “Oh, dear God, they didn’t... ”

“What is this recipe for?” Thumper asked her in a harsh tone.

Daisy hung her head. She didn’t speak for a moment then she whispered, “It’s a home remedy for pain. But it's been altered to juice up the effects.”

“Any idea where it came from?” Thumper wanted to know.

Daisy nodded slowly. “My grandma was a holistic healer back in her day. She lived in a rural area. Doctors were far and few, back in her time. She learned Eastern medicine from her own grandmother when she was young and she kept some of her old recipes, passed them down to her daughter, my mother. Mom kept those recipes secret because she knew my dad had a temper and he might destroy them But she passed them onto me. I used to make them when dad got mad because I knew he liked to hit her a lot. My mom couldn’t have any more kids after me and he wanted more sons.

” She turned her head and stared at the screens.

“I would make that potion and use it when he beat her up. It took away the pain for a little while at least. I never thought he saw me do it, hell he was never home to see anything. One of the boys may have seen me use it, I don’t know.

But when they left the last time and he came home alone, I hid those recipes.

I pried one of the floorboards in my bedroom up and put them down underneath.

Then I nailed the board back into place.

Him or one of my brothers must have found them.

” She stood and moved closer to the screen.

Then she read the formula and gasped. She looked at Pope and whispered, “If this is the formula for their new designer drug, it's all wrong.”

“What do you mean, girl? All wrong for what?” Bishop wanted to know.

“You can’t mix two of those ingredients together. If you do it will poison whoever took it. And you can’t make something like that into a powder. It will concentrate the power of the plant and that's not something you want to make as a concentrate.”

“What will it do to the person taking it?” Cardinal asked.

“Well, the proportions are all wrong. This isn’t going to give you a rush, it'll kill you instantly.”

Thumper stared hard at her. “Are you sure about that?”

Daisy nodded. “In one of the books my grandmother left, she wrote pages and pages of ingredients that you can’t mix together.

She also wrote a warning about plants that you can’t dry and mix with other plants.

” She looked back at the screen. “Those big dummies. If they tried to sell these pills they would have killed people. Like this is worse than the very worst dose of fentanyl.”

Pope nodded at his brothers and then at Thumper. “And who would the cops have come after if people started dying? Not Demon, that's for sure. If the plan was that Satan would be the runner, then the cops would have nailed his ass to the wall, and Demon would have skated. Right down a hole.”

“Holy shit and shineola!” Cardinal exclaimed. “And Demon would have stayed in that hole until the heat went away, then left town and started all over someplace where nobody knew his name.”

Thumper shook his head. Then he looked at Daisy again and asked her a question, “Is that why your dad demanded to get Digger back?”

Daisy shrugged as she looked upset. “Maybe but I think it was something else entirely. You see, Digger knows more of my dad’s secrets than anyone I think?

Like too many and that makes him dangerous to my dad’s empire.

If Digger ever got caught, my dad wouldn’t trust him to keep his big mouth shut.

No he has to keep Digger close to his side or risk Digger making a deal if the cops ever got him.

” She pointed at the screen. “But if my dad wanted that to make him money? He’s going to be very disappointed.

All that’s going to do is make him a killer.

Like a mass murderer really and if he got Satan involved, well he set up a dangerous man with a killer MC behind him. ”
