8. Chapter Eight #2

Dante’s eyes darken into a fury I haven’t seen from him yet.

Thankfully, it’s not directed at me. “That motherfucker. You need help. I have a private doctor I can take you to.” He tries picking me up but I cry out from the pain.

“Shit. Ok.” He pulls his phone out and calls someone.

The doctor. “You need to get here. As soon as you can. I need help. A bad injury. Get here.” He hangs up and tosses his phone to the side. “Sienna?”

“It hurts,” I moan. “It hurts.”

“I know. But I called my doctor. He’s on his way. He’ll help you. I promise.”

Dante waits by my side until the doctor arrives. It feels like an eternity.

The doctor is a middle aged man with a kind, unassuming face. After kneeling down beside me, he looks over my injuries. “Ok. She needs serious help. She could have internal bleeding. A concussion. Who knows? Do you know what happened?”

“She hasn’t said.”

“Kicked…” I force myself to say. “He kicked me.”

The doctor flicks his eyes to Dante.

“It wasn’t me,” Dante snaps. “It was one of my men. Edward.”

“I never liked him.”

“I don’t fucking care. Just help her.”

The doctor turns back to me. “Sienna, we need to get you to my clinic. Carry her.”

Dante picks me up despite my cries of pain. The expression on his face is one I don’t understand. He doesn’t care for me, I know that. But…

I sob when Dante places me in the back seat of the doctor’s car. “I know,” he murmurs. “But you’ll get help.”

Thankfully, the drive to the doctor’s clinic is not far from here. That’s probably the reason he’s Dante’s private doctor.

The clinic is small with only one nurse in the front office. She doesn’t even blink an eye as Dante walks past her with me in his arms, the doctor following.

I’m placed on a medical bed and the doctor gets to work. The pain is too much and I can’t hold it back any longer.

Darkness takes over me and I’m grateful that I don’t have to feel any more pain.

Dante

Seeing Sienna pass out makes my chest fucking squeeze. But what is this feeling? I’ve never had it before.

“You need to give me space to work,” Dr. Russo says. “Get out.”

“I am not going anywhere.”

“I can help her faster if you just go. So go.” He practically shoves me out of the room and I wait in the front office. Jolene, his assistant, stares back at me.

“What?” I snap.

“Normally you’re the one in here for injuries,” she comments.

“Just get back to work.” I settle in one of the waiting chairs. Jolene chews her gum and continues to stare at me. American. Too bold for my liking.

It takes Dr. Russo an hour before he comes out to me. “I did multiple scans. She doesn’t have any internal bleeding. No fractures, miraculously. Just really bad bruising. She’ll be in pain for a while.”

“Can I take her back home with me?”

“Yes.” He hesitates. “Who is she?”

“None of your concern.” I have to get Sienna back before we’re discovered here. And then I need to go kill Edward for what he fucking did to her.

Sienna is still asleep even after I take her home. Russo explained that the pain knocked her out but she should come to anytime.

I leave her in the bedroom with the door locked. I need to go deal with Edward.

I could tell Sienna wasn’t lying when she said his name. And besides, Edward has been a pain in my ass for years. I just like bringing him around to mess with him. Because it’s fun. But he would never try anything with me. I was protected.

I guess Sienna was fair game in his eyes.

Fuck that.

It’s not hard to find him. At a fucking strip club at the end of the day. It’s the place he loves going to the most.

He’s sipping a drink and watching a woman shake her ass before his very eyes. I slide into the seat beside him and pat him on the back. He practically chokes on his drink.

“What do you think you were doing, Ed?”

“Dante. Hi. What brings you in tonight?”

“I know you beat her, Edward. Kicked her. She told me. Were you hoping she was dead when you left her and that I would never find out?”

He doesn’t respond.

“Ed. Eddy. Edward. So many names for one man. But you’re a sad, pathetic man who doesn’t deserve to have that honor. You beat the shit out of a woman. Why?”

“She insulted me,” he hisses. The venom in his voice is clear. “She deserved it. And she’s your prisoner. I thought it would be fine.”

“If you thought it would be fine, why didn’t you stay after you were done? Why run?”

“I don’t know. I just did.”

“Ah. I see.” I pat his back a few times. “Well, Edward. I’m the only one who gets to touch Sienna. Not you. Remember that.”

He lets out a sigh. “Is that all? I can do that. I didn’t realize.”

I smirk and leave Edward behind as I walk out of the club. I get into my car and wait.

It takes him an hour before he leaves. Fucking asshole wasting my time.

The moment he gets into his car, I get out of mine and walk up to him. That’s when I pull out my gun and shoot him in the head. With my silencer, it doesn’t draw any attention.

Edward slumps onto the steering wheel. I call one of my other men to come clean the body up and destroy any evidence.

Then I walk away and drive back home to Sienna. Like it’s another day at the office.

I check on her in her room to find that she’s awake. Her eyes widen when she sees me. “How… how are you feeling?”

“I hurt,” she croaks.

“I figured. Well, you should know that I killed Edward for you. So you won’t need to worry about him anymore. Sound good?”

She blinks. “Huh… I don’t know what to say to that.”

“Russo said you didn’t suffer any serious injuries. It was a miracle. I guess God intervened, huh?”

She looks even more confused. “I guess?”

“Get some rest. You need it. Your body needs to heal.” I turn to leave when she speaks.

“Dante?” It’s the first time she’s ever really said my name. “Thank you.”

I let her gratitude wash over me. It makes my heart feel funny again. The urge to kiss her is strong but I hold it back.

“I said you were mine,” I respond. “And I meant it.” I leave before I reveal anything I shouldn’t to her.
