Chapter 5 Jahmir

FIVE

JAHMIR

The crew hadn’t gotten to work yet and Deshay was down on her knees, swallowing my whole dick.

I grabbed the back of her head and pushed her head down until I heard her gag.

Looking at my watch to see we had a good ten minutes before the first person walked in, I took control of her head.

Three minutes later, I was nutting in her mouth, and she was getting up, wiping her mouth.

We didn’t say anything to each other as she left my office.

An hour later, she was taking notes in my meeting like nothing happened.

I appreciated her not wanting anything more out of me.

My life was too complicated to be locked down or deal with drama.

I had my family on my shoulders and that was my focus.

I took on a new client who was ready to lay concrete at a new establishment.

After going over the numbers, the amount of staff and days we would need to complete the project, he was finally here to finalize his paperwork.

“Nice to meet you finally.” I stood and shook his hand.

“This is nice. It’s always nice to see another brother doing his thing. How long have you been in the concrete business?” He asked.

“Pretty much all my life. It was passed down through the family.”

“Oh, so you didn’t have to work as hard as me then.” He chuckled.

I immediately reached for my stress ball.

Wasn’t shit funny to me. For as long as I can remember, everyone thought I was a nepotism baby.

Not knowing how hard my family fought to stay in this business.

It was muthafuckas like him that had the same skin tone as me, assuming instead of getting to know me.

“Kileen, is it?” I asked to confirm his name. “Fuck make you think I didn’t work hard to get here?” I slammed the ball down on the table, causing him to jump.

“I wasn’t saying it like that. All I was saying was that someone like me, who had to play ball and sacrifice my body to get a degree, shows hard work. If this wonderful business was passed down, then the hard work wasn’t on your back. It was on someone else’s.”

“Deshay, have him sign the papers and get him the fuck out of here.” I stood up and left the conference room.

When I got to my office, I grabbed my other phone and left for the day.

I had to clear my head before that nigga found himself dead.

The only place that I could release this anger was the gun range.

I took my cufflinks off and rolled my sleeves up to pick up the AR, pointed it at my target, and let loose.

My family was a sensitive spot for me, and I’ve done some things to people for saying the slightest thing about my family. I was working on that part of me.

“That’s one of my favorites,” Detective Cole said behind me.

“Old man, what have you been up to?” I put the gun down and dapped him up.

Detective Cole and I had a little history.

He saved me from cases that came up against me when I was a few years younger.

It was him and my grandfather that collaborated to get me out of the streets.

Once I caught the attempted murder charge and it disappeared, I knew that was my sign to change my ways.

He was also the one to introduce me to this same gun range.

We had lost contact once he retired. This was my first time seeing him in a while.

“Just popping in here to see if an old man still got it. Let me guess, someone pissed you off?”

“You have no idea how hard it was for me to walk away.”

“If you’re here, you did good,” he said, squeezing my shoulder. “Never forget how far you’ve come, son. I’ll see you around.”

“‘Preciate you, Detective.”

Later that night, I was leaving one of my favorite pizza spots, and I noticed Ms. Cole walking out of the salon next door.

She was looking down at her phone when I approached her.

The smell of the hairspray and her perfume was mixed and reminded me of my mama after she would leave the beauty shop.

Only Ms. Cole’s perfume was a little bit more expensive.

“It’s a little late for hair appointments, don’t you think?” I startled her.

“Don’t scare me like that!” she grabbed her chest.

It wasn’t a bad neighborhood, so I can see why she wasn’t on alert.

“Gotta pay attention to your surroundings.”

“I grew up over here, so I’m familiar with the neighborhood.”

“Oh, this is your side of town?” I looked around.

“Pretty much! I see you got some of the best pizza in town in your hand. Please don’t tell me all of that is for you?”

“Now you know this is for my niece and nephew. I mean, me too, but they are staying with me for a few days so I can give my sister some time away.”

“That’s nice of you.” She smiled and looked away.

The silence between us must’ve gotten the best of her because she ran her hand over her shirt as if she was knocking hair off that wasn’t there.

I was too busy admiring her to care about the silence.

Every encounter with her showed me how beautiful she was.

It was like she was getting finer and finer.

The last time I saw her, she had a big ass rock on her fingers. Today, her finger was bare. I know that didn’t mean shit. She probably forgot to put it on. I couldn’t be her nigga and she walked out the house looking this good and forgot to put my ring on her finger.

“Not sure if you got the email, but I will be by for the twins’ appointment on Friday.”

“This Friday?”

“Yes, do we need to reschedule?”

“Nah, they will be with me at my place.”

“So, where I’ve been meeting them at is not your place?”

“It’s the family home that we share, but I have my own space. We can go back to the family house for the appointment if you’re not comfortable, or if your husband is uncomfortable with you being at another man’s house.” I threw in there.

“Tuh, what makes you think I’m married?” She looked at me with an attitude.

I didn’t want her to know that I had been watching her during the last few appointments. It was hard not to.

“You always have a big ass rock on your finger when you come to the appointments.”

Her smile faded as she raised her left hand and looked at the empty spot that used to carry the diamond. Yeah, that nigga had fucked up. Now I regretted that I noticed.

“Well, it’s complicated. Anyways, your place is fine. You just need to email me the address so I can add it to their paperwork.”

I pulled my phone out, went straight to her email, and sent my address.

“Done! I’ll see you on Friday. Do I need anything for them?”

“No, we’re doing something new, so I’ll bring everything I need.”

“Aight,” I looked her up and down one more time. “That cut looks good as fuck on you too. Have a great night, Ms. Cole.”

“You too, Mr. Grant.”

As she walked away, I stood there frozen, watching her.

Her whole aura exuded that she knew who she was and what she was worth.

I wanted to pry when she told me her marriage was complicated.

Like what kind of nigga would let an educated, beautiful black woman like her feel that what she had was complicated?

It was my phone that brought me out of my daydream, and I noticed she had disappeared.

“My bad, I’m on the way.”

“Now it doesn’t take that long to get pizza. What are you doing?”

“Lonni, I’m coming. I ran into Ms. Cole. I let her know that you were going out of town and she would have to see the twins at my place.”

“Oh, I forgot to email her. Okay, well, bring your ass on. They are hungry.”

“I’m coming,” I said, looking back, hoping to see her pass by before I hung up.

“Dream, please clean that juice up off the counter with your napkin please,” I told him as I wiped Reign’s mouth with a wipe.

Lonni told me I was hard on Dream. I don’t think I was, I just knew deep down how hard the world was going to be on him, and I wanted him to be able to maintain. I could say the same for how she was with Reign. We both had our reasons, and I was okay with it.

“There.” He wiped the spot.

“Give me five.” I held my hand up and we slapped them together.

“Let me clean you up.” I took a clean wipe and then cleaned his face.

They had just finished up their snack before Ms. Cole arrived.

I didn’t want them distracted while she was here.

After cleaning their faces, I then let them both go to the bathroom.

We followed that by washing their hands and went back to my den to wait for their appointment.

Being that the twins were in my life, I had no desire to have any kids.

They were a handful, and if it wasn’t for my baby sister, there was no way I would be able to run my business or try to have a personal life outside of them.

I timed everything right and smiled because Lonni would be proud of me for keeping them on schedule.

The gate buzzed a second time, so I buzzed her in and went to open the door for her.

I just saw her a few days ago and she had changed her nail color to red.

The curls were changed and her eyebrows were freshly threaded.

I really needed to chill.

She smiled as she approached and I returned the gesture.

“Would you like me to grab something for you?”

“No, I got it. Thank you, though.”

“Okay, slip your shoes off and let me show you where you’ll be with them today. Follow me.”

I lead her through my foyer, past my office, to the den. The kids were so excited to see her that they dropped what they were doing as soon as they heard her voice. She couldn’t even put her bags down before they were crawling all over her.

“Hey, have you guys been good for your uncle?” She looked back at me.

“Yes! I have,” Reign said. “Dream been messy.”

“Dream, have you been making a mess?” She asked.

“No…no, it was a little.”

“It was a little what? Take your time.”

“A little bit,” he corrected himself.
