Chapter 12
Serenity
I should have gone back. I have never wanted someone the way that I want him. That said a lot, to be honest. But it was so confusing all at the same time.
When I walked into the diner, I saw Allie in one of the booths.
“Hey! Over here.” I turned toward the voice and smiled as I saw she was in the same booth that Kyle and I sat in earlier. I walked over to her and looked around the diner and I laughed at myself. Why would I think he would be here when I just left him in the park?
“What’s so funny?” Allie asked and looked around but didn’t see anything funny.
“Nothing, don”t worry about it.” I took my seat across from her and grabbed the menu. I was super hungry. When I was here earlier, I didn’t eat because of all the excitement with the big guy.
“I have so many things that we can do while you’re here on your vacation!” I looked up at her with a question in my eyes because I never said that I was on vacation, just that I was curious about what there was to do around here.
“Oh, sorry. I got an email earlier from Kyle saying that you’re on vacation for a while. Sorry if I overstepped.”
Fucking Kyle again.
“It’s okay, don’t worry about it. Let’s order some food first before we start talking about everything.” She smiled up at me like she wanted to say something else, but instead chose to look at the menu. Thank god. I needed to get myself in check.
“Are you ladies ready to order?” I looked up and saw the waitress standing there and looked over at Allie to see if she wanted to go first. All I saw was her in deep thought with her menu, so I just decide to go.
“I’ll take the cheeseburger with everything and fries. Oh, and a glass of water.” I closed up the menu and handed it to her. She turned her head toward Allie and was waiting patiently.
“Miss, do you need me to come back?”
She looked up and seemed panicked.
“Nope, I’ll have the same as Serenity. That’s fine.” The waitress scribbled on her pad, then looked up and smiled.
“That will be out in a few ladies.” I looked up and smiled, and she walked off.
“So I was thinking that we can do this wine in the park night that they have tomorrow night or there are a number of museums that we can go to.” Allie had a folder in front of her. I was a little impressed. I let her keep talking, only taking in a few of the things she said because my mind was unfortunately elsewhere.
“Here you go ladies.” Thank god, the food just showed up. “Do you ladies need anything else?” I looked over at Allie, then back to the waitress.
“Nope, we are good. Thank you.” I started to dig in and realized I was starving.
“We can do the wine thing if you want, then plan a day after that to go to a museum, okay?” I said really quick because I do want to get to know Allie better and the city. She looked up at me, shocked that I said something and smiled.
“That would be great! I’m sorry if I am a lot sometimes. It’s something that I’m trying to work on. I don’t get to hang out much.” I looked at her and found it interesting that it seemed like she and I might have more in common than I expected. We sat and made small talk for the next twenty minutes while we ate our food. People came and went and I realized that it was starting to get busy at the diner.
“Thanks so much for inviting me out for lunch. I don’t get to hangout a lot either. Kind of a workaholic.” She smiled big and grabbed the bill.
“You don’t need to do that. I can pay for us.”
She waved me off and gave the waitress her credit card.
“It’s not a big deal. I really enjoyed this. I hope that the rest of your vacation is fun too. I’ll text you tomorrow night about the wine thing?” I nodded while taking another drink of my soda.
“That would be great,” I said. She stood and so did I, and we hugged. Definitely something that I’m going to have to get used to.
“I’ll talk to you tomorrow then. Be safe.” I said to her as she walked away and sent a small smile to me when she got to the door. I turned back to the table and grabbed one more fry and looked back up toward the door.
Oh shit.
Theo was walking in with another tall guy who had a lot of the same facial features as him, as well as their build. Wonder if they’re related? I grabbed my phone and walked toward him. I was about five feet away when he looked to the side and saw me with a shit-eating grin on my face.
“Hey stud, I told you I would see you again.” He suddenly turned his head and the other guy turned at the same time.
“Hi, I’m Simon Masters, Theo’s brother. How do you two know each other?” I looked over at Theo, wondering what he would say, but he doesn’t talk, shocker.
“Yea, we go way back.” He was looking at me weird now, but I kept going.
“I’ll see you later tonight like we talked about?” His brother was now looking at both of us with a very confused look.
“Sure.”
Hey, he talked and maybe he will follow through with what I said! I stood on my tip toes and gave him a kiss. He slid his hand around my waist and held me there for a minute longer than expected. He gripped my side and I almost didn’t want him to let me go. We both pulled back and his brother didn’t have a clue what just happened.
“All right then. It was nice to meet you?” Simon said, and I smiled and looked over at him. I reached my hand out for his.
“Serenity Carter. It’s nice to meet you.” He shook my hand and got a really big smile on his face. Odd, very odd.
“Catch you later.” I looked at Theo once more, then headed out the door.
