We finish dinner in silence, each lost in our own thoughts. What we told her is the truth. Our reputations reflect on our business. She’s still young, and earning that type of reputation could damage everything she hopes to achieve in the future.

As much as I’d love to claim her as ours, it would be detrimental to what we all hope to achieve. I leave the table first and head into Madison’s room. The shower is still running. I step into the bathroom and shed my clothes on the floor.

When I open the shower door, she lifts her head to look at me. Her eyes are red rimmed and her lower lip trembles. My heart aches to see her like this. I close the distance between us and take her into my arms.
