I sit across from Shamus on his bed, cross-legged, as he holds his hand out again. “Focus, Tate,” he snaps, and my eyes narrow in annoyance at his use of my name. I’m accustomed to the endearment he always uses when speaking to me, and I find it hard to hear my name on his lips now.

Pressing my palm above his, I close my eyes and focus on the vision I want to throw at him, and then I touch him. This time he jerks back with a laugh, and I open my eyes, grinning. “Did you see it?”

“You slapping me? Yes, good. Try again, but more detailed this time. Shove more at me, as long as you can,” he murmurs.
